New OEM bumpers and bumperetes

Top has never been off and never will be.

Seats in perfect shape, front and rear, except the driver bottom, I have new OEM cover in the bag…..but no need now(SOR seat covers over them). New OEM jump seat straps

As for how I got this, I was driving thru a local subdivision one day(3 years ago) looking for a buddy, I noticed this sad looking fj40 in a driveway…..I for some reason turned around, went back and knocked on the door(never done this before). Nice older lady comes to the door, I asked if the 40 is hers, she says “ it was my husbands, he bought it new, he passed away 5 years ago………I have been waiting for the right person to come by” 

In short, I paid $5500 for it, actually I had given her $5K in cash and a check for $1500(so $6500), a month latter I took the 40 back over to show her what I had done(just waxed it, tires and some little stuff) She started to cry………she was SO SO happy to see it on the road and looking good again. She told me to hold on, she would be right back. She came out of the house with my check for $1500, she tried to give it back to me, I told her is was hers, she tore the check up in front of me and gave me a big hug  I stop by to see her every month or two, 2 months ago she wasn’t home, but the next door neighbor had a LX470 for sale……..so I bought that for Connie, figured it was ment to be 

When I got the 40 it was looking pretty sad, but my buddy came over and hand waxed it a few times……and it shined up like new. I replaced most the trim bits, new bumpers, bumperttes, ect ect. Went thru all the systems and gave it what it needed. The motor needed nothing. A lot of the mechanical stuff I did, probably didn’t even need to be done, I just wanted years of enjoyment with no issues.

The body and paint are all original, there is no rot, a few spots(rear sill, bottom outside of one door) of surface rust where things had bumped into the body, just need to touch them up, but there is NO rot, just marks for use. Body is straight, bottom front corner of the PS door has a little bend to it, I just need to bend it back, I probably never will as that’s the way I found it and it doesn’t bother me at all. Floors throughout are PERFECT. No holes have been cut or drilled anyplace in the body, I have also not drilled any holes, anything I added I used the stock holes. All doors perfect, all the original weather striping is perfect. Under the body is just nice as above, NO rust, frame is perfect, cross members are perfect. All the bolts look like the day they were put on, they all also come right out when needed. Dash is uncut and in perfect shape. She don’t burn or leak an ounce of oil.

How does it drive…….AMAZING, think of the nicest FJ60 you have ever driven, this is just like driving a 60. It has a ton of power, no need to down shift on the highway hills, it will do well over 80mph….and do so with only one finger on the wheel. She gets up and moves VERY well. It drives as good or better than the day it rolled off the showroom floor. Funny I started dragging my folks to the Toyota dealer in 1982 looking at 40’s…..only took me 20 years to get one.

I could have looked for YEARS for a late model fj40……and I would never ever have found one this nice. This is my favorite Cruiser, no ifs and or buts about it. I have a special bond with this Cruiser, sometimes I feel like there is someone ridding with me….I think this is Linda’s husband(he was an engineer for Pratt Whitney, he never beat on it), I know he is happy I have it, I know Linda is happy I have it, I know I am happy I have it. Others had tried to buy it(for 10K)…….but I was the one she wanted 

99% of folks that see it think its been restored, nope…….its all original, you can restore a car 100 times but they are original only once.

I feel very blessed that I am the caretaker for this wonderful FJ40.

So keep the faith, there still are nice stock 40’s out there for not a ton of money, if a voice in your head tells you to turn down this road or that……..listen to it….it might be the voice of a passed on original owner……looking for a new owner

Oh and don’t look for any action shots, I don’t wheel it, but I do take in the woods when looking for land.

I think that’s it.

John H

that was for the fog lights(before I tracked down the OEM fog switch) I am now using it for the elec hand throttle(uses the AC idle up on the carb) The switch is aftermarket, but it fit the very small stock hole(had a plug in it orignaly) and it looks like one of the stock earlier interior light switchs.

June 1982. My other 82 is a few months earlier(Feb 82 I think), but whats interesting is the earlier 82 has a day/night mirror, June 82 does not, but it has the orignial Port sticker on it

Also the June 82 has a spot on the pass side for another interior light, the earlier 82 does not. Other than that, they are the same.

Hey, are those the centercaps you bought from me on the rear wheels?

Awesome.

Fantabulous!!!

Like the shiny 60 rims, they're nice. So, just a few wax jobs took it from that before pic to it's current supa-shiny condition? Real nice.

Cool story and I couldn't agree more about listening to the voices. Sometimes it feels like these metal machines have a spirit of their own, but you can definitely feel the presence of those who have come before you. I plan on visiting mine afterwards .

That is one thing that a new heep can't bring you, history. This thing I drive has been around for 30 years and has more life experience than I do. It's a special bond that is to be respected. These things rock!!

Good on ya, for this one and all of the other good work you've done for the cause. Oh, and thanks for giving me someone to refer to when I tell my wife "I want one of these, one of those, and 2 of these. Land Pimp has em, see it can be done".

thanks

yes, just wax, I touched up a few spots with touch up paint, the DS window hinge, the rear sill under the PS door where crap had knocked the paint off,but thats about it....... the body shined up real nice, I was very suprised and happy inside was pretty much mint, no one had buggered up the dash or any part of it.

that makes me hard... That is arguably the finest example of an original FJ40 that I have seen. Makes me feel like I'm driving a J$%P. What I would do to own that car, damn you must have good Karma

THAT'S what owning Cruisers is all about. We are all caretakers and I know I completely understand what Pimp is saying about "the voice". Some things are meant to be. Great truck and great story!

Nice story to go along with a sweet find!
I'm still hoping one day that I'll stumble across my dream car, a 63 Vette thats been in a barn for most of its life.
Maybe I'll get lucky and find a FJ45 pickup also....................at a reasonable to me price.

I am to contribute in a small way to such a fine example.

If anything, I tend to think the 33s on the spare tire carrier look a little huge and detract from what would otherwise be a balanced stock configuration/look. I only say this because I have 33 Allterrains too and don't like the size of my spare, but then also know that if you want the 33s on the ground, you have to have one on the spare...

Again, my compliments 'pimp.

Sweet truck John-

What is funny to me is you could occupy ROTW for like two months by yourself!

Love the green, it is roughly the shade of my envy at this point.
