Attaching relay arm to center arm assembly

I've rebuilt the centre arm assembly and got it all back together. I can't work out how to press on the relay arm to the center arm assembly. Can this be done in the garage or do I have to take it somewhere that has a hydraulic press?

I've tightened the nut as much as I can and there's still a gap which allows the seal to keep popping out.

I've searched the forum but everyone talks about separating them but not joining. Are there any tricks?

There are no tricks, do not press it on. Tighten the nut to OEM torque specs and you will be fine.

When I did mine I had a small gap and the seal moved out a little but not all the way. How far down is the top cover tightened?

Notice that the stud is tapered on the tie rod end and can only go on correctly one way.

Hmm, it just doesn't seem right. Here's another pic showing the gap and the top adjusting nut. It can only go on one way for the other linkages to line up so i'm sure that's it's on the right way. The top nut was tightened then backed off 1/4 turn, sit's almost flush.

Pin_Head: Thanks for your input but i'm not up to that stage.

Ya, I'm sure that it's supposed to have a nice gap there and that the seal isn't supposed to press up and rest against the arm. Don't know how but it's prolly just a worn out seal seating area or an irregular sized seal/old seal. Did you replace the seal when you rebuilt the unit?

My best guess FWIW.

It's a new seal, came with the kit, didn't seem to be a tight fit into the housing but the inside seals on the shaft neatly.

I'll stick it all back on the cruiser and see how it goes. Thanks

Depending on the condition of the unit before the rebuild, I suppose the seal could have been riding around turning and wearing out the seat. Might need a new housing if it doesn't work out for ya. Good luck

I rebuilt my center arm last night and had the same problem. I put a zip tie in there to take up the space and hold the seal in. We'll see if it works.
