| I found my 8274-50 on this site for sale. It's great. I've hauled out vehicles that are bigger than my rig with it. It's wonderful! Try to buy one that is complete and in need of very little. The more that is missing means the more that you will have to purchase to make it work right. I second the suggestion to try http://www.shercosales.com.

and now i've lost the one sideplate/bearing plate thingy.
so in the few times i've needed somthing, my industerial strength come-along and straps have got'en the job done.

| 8274 on the 40 used it with snatch block to pull out my 4x4 kubota m5700 (57 hp) VERY stuck tractor,,, had to chain the rear 40 axel to a tree, and still picked the rear end up
needless to say I was really stuck a 70 hp 2wd jd tractor could not budge it, the fel did nothing, b4 I hooked the 40 to a tree I burried 2 12" tall steel wheel chocks, just shoved them into the ground (2 pcs of like 9-10" channel welded together and braced)
m12000 going on the 62,,

| my history with winches:
first ever was anew in the box ramsey 8000. lasted 1 year 1 month and the motor died, no warrenty
then a bellview 6000, unreal power, would out pull the later warn 8000.
next was a 8274 that one outlasted quite a few trucks.
PTO, should read POS. the down fall of this winch is the shear pin and no load notification. the elec will stall out if you are trying to pull too much. the PTO just quites, no sound, no notification all of a suddedn you get the feeling you are not going forward anymore. the shear pin is in the most inaccessable spot and when you are up to your headlights in ice cold water you are FUBAR. to change out the shear pin on dry ground can be an endevor in futility as well.
my vote is the 8274, 8274-50 or the bellveiw.
cheers |

| I got (3) 8274's & (2) M12000's - not all installed yet. All but 1 were bought off Ebay. Other than me buying some synthetic cable, they were all complete & in good working condition. |

| Gotta belleview for the 40. Wish I had an 8274-50. Not that I don't like the Belleview.
Need something on the 80. I might as well just buckle under and accept the fact I'm going to keep wheeling it. M12000, hopefully. |

| I went with a standard warn m-8000 a short while back. I really wanted a 8274, but looking at what that thing weighs, and how it mounts, it really wouldn't have worked very well for me. I had to have a multi-mount. I didn't want to carry a winch around in the back of the 40 and I didn't like warns setup, so I just built my own. |

| been through two rep 8k's and one ramsey PTO8k. settled on the warn m12k. Haven't truly put it to the test but it should be enough.
The ramsey PTO was indestuctible but I no longer own it. Ramsey 8k was a joke burnt up first use trying to pull myself out of the mud -man IH8MUD! It got the name of cable spooler inner outer cause, thats all it would do.
I'd buy the m12k for the same money as the 8274 or less?!

Also doesn't have the tie-bars limiting how much cable you can stack up on one side of the drum on a angled pull.
I'm waiting for a good deal on a Belleview or 8274 to stare me in the face.
Until that happens I've got a free m8000 waiting for some solenoids. Will probably go on the 80.

| I run a modified 8000lb high mount I have a question for the PTO followers. How do you winch your truck back onto it's wheels when rolled or layed on its side without damaging the engine? PTO's in general seem every bit as good if not better than electric, they will go longer and just as hard.

| Here's what I been runnin for about 4 years now. Havn't had to use it in quite a while, but it's proven to be quite a capable little unit. I've seen similar ones in TSC but they aren't as beefy. I think once I do upgrade to an 8274 I'll prolly still keep it handy. |

| Just one more to agree with the Warn 8274.
I've sucked people out of the goo i've seen other winches just bog down on.
While your spending money get your self a good snatch-block and some extra tow/winch ropes.

| I bought my XD9000 on the 4Runner from http://www.4wheelonline.com/ in Florida. Free shipping because it's drop shipped. Price on the 8274-50 right now is $1075.99, which sounds pretty good.

I have a friend that has one. He has a 8000lb electric. They are loud and slow. He has had it for about two years and I can personally atest that he has about 150 hundred real hard pulls and recoveries on it. Last outting the milemarker finally gave up the ghost during a hard pull on a seriously stuck BJ74.
PTOs here are usually trashed and replaced with a electric winch. I Believe a lot of people THINK PTOs are great until they have actually used them in demanding situations. No engine power, no winch power, shear pins break, up grade shear pins and then the PTO propeller shaft joint/transfer case can/will go.
I have two 24v Toyota high profile winches (8274 look alikes) on my BJ44. I can't say enough about these two winches. Quite and fast. Even faster with a snatch block vice straight pulling.
Japanese wheelers will ditch their Toyota winches for Warn winches. They think Warn made their reputation with the 8274 and nothing else will do. If you can find some way of getting a Toyota winch I would tell you to really consider it as a viable option with good quality.
