Wire Harness question (pics)

76FJ40

Can someone tell me if this plug is stock? Looks to me like the PO spliced these wires together, but the 3rd wire going to the plug looks unaltered. Maybe they only needed the 2 wires for another project then returned the plug to original configuration after they were done?

I do have lots of evidence this 2F was not always in this engine bay, I suspect there was a SBC or similar at some point. Most of the wiring is decent and this looks to be the last of what I haven't figured out yet.

Help is appreciated!

My guess is it is the plug for the carb fan... not that it matters but this 40 came to me without the fan

A is white with black stripe
B is black with yellow stripe
C is white with green stripe

Edit: there are also some booger solders on the two brown wires at the plug. I read this to mean PO spliced this plug back in to the game at some point.

I think that might be the original plug for your regulator. I see the regulator in the photo, but I can't see the wiring. Do the wires at the regulator appear to be replacements? Do you have a stock alternator?

When a GM alternator is used it's common practice to connect the black w/y wire to the white w/g wire........

Gives KO 12+ volts to the w/g wire @ the alternator plug to energize it.......

Thanks for the replies.

The regulator appears to have stock wires. The alternator is also stock as far as I know, it is a Nippondenso with Teq on it.

Grant,

I think you are right about a previous GM alt used in this engine bay. What do I need to do to bring this back to stock form? Is this plug supposed to go to the regulator?

Thanks

Kent

Based on the color codes and location it is most likely the plug to the VR. Black/yellow is the key on power to the VR, white/green goes from the VR to the F terminal on the alternator and white/black goes to the E terminal and is the ground wire between the VR and alt.
