| windshield differences between '66 and '69-73 Is the frame size the same or different between '66 and '69-73? Is the glass the same or different? I'm in need of glass and weatherstripping and having difficulty trying to get answers from glass shop in my area. I did a search and apparently the shops aren't worth a grain of salt since most don't have a clue what a fj40/landcruiser is or that they were made back then or some other short bus answer they gave me....
Rant over and any help would be great.
Thanks! |

| SOR list 65-12/74 glass and W/S as the same, they sell a template for $14.95 or you could pick up whole windshield from Me to use as a template of coerce
The frame made changes after 67 such as wiper motors, rear view mirror, windshield hold down brackets & dash pads http://www.sor.com/sor/cat120.tam?xax=18975&pagenumber %2Eptx=1&page %2Ectx =cat120 %2Etam

| Go to your local Toyota dealer...that is where I got mine
Edit: and it was about the same price as having one cut...in one case cheaper

| I'm not sure when Toyota quit putting the "crank open vent" on the bottom of the windshield frame (directly below the windshield glass) but my 1966 had the vent, consequently a shorter windshield glass. I did have my local glass shop cut a tinted windshield for less than the cost of a new Toyota glass.

| 66 with the vent is smaller 69 to 73 use the same size.it might be easier to buy the correct toyota gasket and any good glass shop can cut one for you .my shop charges me around 100.00 each but have done at least 20 for me good luck

Many '66s were '65 productions titled in '66.
I sat with my Toyota parts people, and they actually are pretty good for the newer FJ/BJ40 and stuff, but their books stop at '69, that being said, once I gave them a valid PN#, they found the glass in the system, and ordered it, plus the weather stripping and key. Cost me around $80 for everything, (been a while) and being north of the border this is more than you should be paying states side.
Glass is harder to ship, so I was glad my local guy could get it, but did you try CDAN?
Edit...wish I had a PN# to offer up...hopefully someone will chime in with one.

| Just did this on my FJ40 Cruiser Dan was my source. His parts book didn't go back that far, but when I told him the date range he had the weather stripping. I will say the install was not easy and I used a glass shop for the install. Took them well over an hour with two installers working on it.
Not sure why is was so hard, but they didn't want to crack the glass and the weather stripping was a tight fit. Works great no leaks, but this install was not a 30 minute in the driveway install.

70 without vent | just out of curiosity This subject is interesting to me trying to figure out when the windshield later frames and factory heaters were introduced
Dose your 1966 have factory heater with defrosters ?
I personally have seen only pre 66 with the vent & small windshield glass
Interesting what is your production date of the 66 based on your frame # vs date registered
1966 production date started with Frame # 42101
My production frame #42537 production date is January or February 1966 Specter Off-Road, Inc.-Landcruiser Parts & Accessories - FJ40 Frame Numbers
Not to say windshield frames replaced with earlier frames, or were used in other non USA markets ?
Non USA markets may have used the vented windshield for a longer period just my thoughts.
Thanks

| My 66 is frame number 35233, and is titled as a 66, even though it is produced in May 65.
my 70 is dated july of 69, but titled as a 70. The VIN corresponds to july 69 production also
The date of production does not mean the model year
The windshield does not have factory defrost vents. The tub was changed, so I don't know if it had the heater. The current tub does

The current tub does | Defrost vents are not a determining factor; both heater and non heater models were shipped during those model years. While it is true that MOST non-heater models were shipped to other countries, there were some sold here.
