Introducing: '74 FJ40 Aluminum Body, 4-links, V8, Atlas II Project

I'm building this truck for my dad (he has the money, I have the time!). He purchased it half-finished with a Chevy 350, TH350 trans and NP205 transfer case.

I found him a nice 2007 Silverado drivetrain instead of the old stuff (310hp 5.3 liter aluminum V8 with 4L60E trans) and ordered him an Atlas 3.8 T-case. The front is getting a 4-link with coil-overs as well.

Every body panel except the hood will be aluminum. I'm planning to brush-finish it and have the whole thing powder coated clear.

I have 17" TRD aluminum wheels with 35" tires for it. Rear is a Dana 60. Front is a Profitt's cruiser axle cut & turned with ARB locker.

Let me know what you guys think!

It's a shame the Previous Owner let it sit outside for a while. The frame & suspension will get some TLC with a blaster.

That cage is overkill. I might remove the diagonal cross bar or something. Sadly, my father will probably just drive it on the street.

That's a lot of rig for a 35" tire, I would go ahead w/ at LEAST 37" tires, before you wish you had gone bigger in the first place. Other than that, looks like a fun build.

I already have a 35" wheel & tire combo but I agree that I may need to go bigger.

I'm cutting off the front stinger/ bumper combo and using a nice ARB front bumper Ive been saving. The bumper is from a new Wrangler but the mounting points are almost identical... Strange that the FJ40 bumpers made by ARB are almost double the price of the Jeep ones!!

Keep an eye out for my stuff in the classifieds section. I have a nice original hard-top, doors, and lots of other rust-free original parts for this truck that I won't be using. I'll be selling that font bumper/ stinger also. PM Me if you want a price on anything.

Here's the new powerplant. Its a 2007 LB7 Silverado engine with the optional aluminum block. 315 horsepower stock. should put out more than that with the re-mapped computer my friend did for me.

Johnnyc: I'm about 1/2 mile from crossgates mall in Guilderland. Where do you live?

Thanks for the support guys! The rig is at a fabricator's shop to do the front suspension. I'm going with a radius-arm setup with coil-overs for simplicity and good driveability on the street. True 4-links up front are too flexy for street use without som really stiff springs.

17" wheels with 35" BFG A/T's

Here's the wheel & tire combo. I bought the wheels brand new in the box from a guy who had them warranteed out on his new TRD supercharged Tacoma.

They bolt right up and use the same lug nuts & everything! I love toyota for keeping it simple for all these years.

WOW! I would leave that front stinger/ bumper in place because it is far stronger than the ARB and it is intergrated into the rest of the custom tubing. Sell the ARB.

Thanks for the advice. I just hate the look of the stinger. I'll have the ARB bumper welded into the cage also. The wide bumper will be better protection for those expensive aluminum fenders! haha
