shock angle ?'s

I got some ford shock towers and was looking at mounting them, the shock tab on the axle housing makes the shock want to sit at about 17 deg. from straight up and down. Is this ok or should they be mounted @ 90 deg.
TIA for any advice.

Your shackles are the wrong end of your spring.... but that's another discussion (hint: I don't like shackle reversals).

The axle is going to move rearward on compression and the shock is going to arc from its forward angle to a more rearward (or vertical) angle. You're going to want to allow for clearance of the shock bracketry for this movement/arcing rearward.

Make sure you gusset the shock mounting tab on the axle.

With the degree of your SR, I hope that you have compensated in your C&T for caster angle and for the pinion angles while the vehicle is loaded and at ride height.

I bought the housing from Proffitts and decided on doing the shackle reversal because it came with the kit and from reading other post of people that loved it. I put it at the measurments they suggested. I take it on what you are saying that the shock tower should be more straight up and down to compensate for the axle moving backward under compression. should I mount the tower at 90 deg?
