axel options

keep 77 40 axel w/ 4.11 and plenty of spare parts,or
set 83 fj60 axels w/3.73

I see both listed by builders, but is there a better? lenght, strength, the same 1/2 ton vs 1 ton difference!

pros and cons...

I'd say it's really a choice between 3.70 or 4.10!

What are you looking to do with your Land Cruiser?

What is your intended use for this vehicle?

I'd say keep the 77 axle, regardless, and if you need a better road vehicle, put 3.73 rings and pinions in it.
60 axles are a little longer than 40 axles, but only on one side, and so you'll have to mod them a bit to make them fit. (move the spring mounts)
The 77 axle is fine spline, so it'll accept any LC-type additions.
But, as Poser said, depends on what you're doing with it, and what's been/being done to the truck.
