engine identification from 1 picture 1f or 2f?
I have committed to buying an old fj40, I have a picture of the engine. I know the fj40 was originally three on the tree and now is a floor shift. Current owner knows very little about it, does not know if it is a 3 or 4 speed. I am hoping someone can tell me if this is a 1f or 2f motor. It will be a few weeks before I can go pick it up, so it will be a huge surprise as to what I am getting. On my budget I get stuff that has 3 wheels already in the junkyard.

F, it isn't a 2F
Pressed steel valve cover and filter on the driver's side.

its an F, appears to be late 71-late 73 vintage.
what the hell is up with the steering column? its pretty much just a funnel for water into the gearbox like that?

This is a 62 fj40. CO (Current Owner) thinks the engine was swapped, not sure about the trany. Has original axles with the real goofy looking locking hubs, A serious pile of rusty parts, but I will try and bring it back from the almost dead. Once I get it in late November I will post up some pics.

No it is up near WV, we are going to be up there over Thanksgiving anyway. Wife is exited for me and about to kill me, I have just started to work on the one I bought from you, and now I blew my money on another one that is taken apart and comes in boxes. I am hoping both just need a lot of sweat equity, something I have some of. I am hoping to get the engine running on the one I got from you and get the body welded and patched and back on before Thanksgiving, since I will have no room to take the body off once I get this other one home. Will post pics in late Nov and do a build thread on both by then. I have sheet metal and old metal bed frames and a welder. So I think I can do a lot of body patching for no out of pocket money.

the engine was swapped...thats not a 1962 engine...looks more like 70? 71?
as for the goofy hubs...and....box of rust....DO NOT Throw them out it may have quite a few things inthere that fj25 guys are looking for ...if you choose not to keep the stuff....or...it could just be crap
the 25 section likes these old rigs

Nothing will get thrown out and on my budget it will have to be really broken and not repairable for me to not keep using it. If I win the lottery they might change.
