Rear seat belt mount

Anybody have good pics of rear seat belt mounts on a 70 FJ40.

Where do they mount, and to what.

Thanks

What type of seat do you have in the back? Do you have a roll bar? Some pics would be nice to help you out.

No roll bar-stock long seats are going in. It's a bare tub right now

Factory roll bar was not installed until 09/73.

Previous to that, there were simply the long rear seats on the tops of the rear fenders, and the seat belts secured to a bolt in the top of the rear fender.

Long rear bench seats are not compatible with the original factory roll bar; that is why Toyota switched to the short jump seats in the rear when the roll bar was installed.

Yeah, I'm thinking I need a roll bar, and the short seats would be fine. If I have more than 5 people in there, I should have my head examined anyway

I don't have a picture, but I attached OEM seat belts to the (long jump seat) attachment points of the backrest in the side of the tub. Hope that helps. Brendon

My dad had a 69 and it had no rear seat belts - back in the day!

From what I recall, the older 40's just used the bolt for the seat bracket to secure the seat belts to the wheel well (sor.com shows it kind of).

I've used the auxiliarry holes on the rear tub rim (for the shorter jump seats) for my belts.

None of these options are too safe - they wouldn't pass an inspection here in Switzerland. Newer cars require quite large bolts for fastening the belts to the chassis and the seat bracket bolts are something like 1/2 the required size /look at the bolts for the front seat belts to get an idea of the desired size).

Something is better than nothing - but I'm going to drill some holes and tack in a backing plate with a big ass fixed nut so passengers are safe and I can pass inspections and reduce liability.
