'79 FJ40 Fuel Tank w/ Vortec Conversion Questions

The build up on my 79 is going pretty good and I've got the 5.3 Vortec and 4L60E Transmission ready to go. My original gas tank is in reusable condition and I bought the GM fuel pump and accessories, but I am concerned about adapting it to the Toyota tank (fuel pickup questions and mounting the GM fuel pump are what I'm worried about). I am trying to stick with the GM unit because it plugs into the GM harness and sending unit is built in to it. What have you guys done about this issue? Thanks

I am curious to hear from the experts on this, because I am in the same situation. I have a tank I just had chemically dipped. My plan unless I hear differently on this thread is to make an adapter plate for the the fuel sending unit (as I am going with aftermarket gauges). And to use the exisitng fuel pickup and return adapter. I plan on doing aftermarket fuel injection on my SBC. The pickup line is 3/8diam I believe which should suffice, and as long as my fuel pump is below the tank (mounted to the inside of the frame rail). The return line is input is what I have to do some research on.

Is the fuel pump on your setup an in tank fuel pump?

Doing the same thing and looking for a better solution than external pump as well. Return line is 5/16 I believe.

search for E2000, I am many others have used these cheap locally bought from a parts store electric pumps with good results, others say it is blasphemy and the in tank pump should be used, but it has worked for me, they are cheap and I carry a spare in case it craps out on me on the trail, it is mounted on my frame rail where it is easy to get to.
