When I bought our latest 40 it came in pieces and in those was a set of bowsfor a soft top....dont know if its complete or what type of top it would fit.

Can you tell me if its all here and what type of top it might fit?

Can anyone post pics of besttop frame w/o top?

yes, the skinny rods are from an early model bestop - I have exactly those on my truck

I don't know what the bows are from, though, mine look different

Anyone have a pic of best top set-up w/o top....trying to seperate whats what

Great thanks....So the two gal. hoops that mount onto the single pivot plate are best top. You all refer to old style....will they not work with present models? found a NOS best top for sale...how can I tell if its the correct model to fit this style frame??

And pics of the style top that fits this?

The majority of the parts are k-line, I have one on my 79. I will get you some pics next week it is on the rig now. A company that manufacturs convertable tops for the automotive industry bought the patterns and equipment to make the tops again. This is the place that I got the info from 1-800-843-5337 on being able to get a new replacemnet top.

The k-line top uses those small tubes similar to pbgbottle's pics to create a door jam around the door and the plates bolt to were the hard top would go then the top hooks around the lip the plates create so you dont have to drill a bunch of hole in the body of your rig. Instead if the door being one peice it is split into an upper and lower that way you can just remove the upper half to make a half door.

the galvanized bows belong to the Bestop - I have the same as pictured, same doors, only in off-white - the hardware on the doors is ever so slightly different, I guess my top might be older

I wouldn't be surpised of a new Bestop fits as well - these are adjustable: there are several holes in the bracket that you can use to mount the bows - IIRC, there are two holes for the front bow and at least three for the rear

the sliding mounts are for a different model top

OK it looks like I have two complete sets of frames
1) older style best top (silver bows not shown...in garage)
1) fast track

anyone know for sure if the newer best top/tiger top will fit the older style frame?

Sorry to hi-jack this thread. I called that number and the guy said he just talked to the company about the K-line tops. They say they are going to start making replacement tops (w/o hardware in 4-6 months. They are setting up a metal shop so the full tops are 6-12 months off. I am very happy to hear this because my K-line is bad, dried up and cracked. but the hardware is fine. That will save me a buck.

P.S. He did say the company plans to do scout II first, maybe if we up the demand they'll get on the FJ40s just as quick!!

Thanks brother,
looking at the pics you posted, looks like I have almost all the fast track hardware.

Couple questions.. What does the windshield a connection look like? Tailgate? and are there spacers under the side tracks?

I will try to post a pic for you. Mine has a peice of aluminium 90 degree stock that slides through the loop at the bottom of the window and the inserts into each side of the track that fit over the top of the tub. It doenst hook to the tail gate at all. Its great design because your not drilling holes all over your rig for snaps. If you look at the firts post with pics the second picture doesnt show it well but you can see a raised area on the track the aluminium stock slides into. Glad it was helpfull I will try to post some better pics of thr rear for you.

I hope this is helpfull. There is alos a velcro strip on the top that can be velcroed to the back of the tail gate if you choose. The number to the guy that knows about the kay line soft tops is(Dan) 1-800-843-5337. This is their web site. KAYLINE MANUFACTURING - Jeep Tops, Suzuki Tops, Amigo Tops, Bronco Tops Jeep Accessories -TURNER 4WD Parts, Dist. Dan said that he will take down your number and as soon as things start to become available he will call everyone on his list.
