im sorry fo your troubles man, its unfortunate how some places take advantage of people.

of all the shops i have managed, worked in, and been apart of i have never stood for that crap and always made adjustments immediately. Customer service should be a priority whether small town or big city.
communication goes a looong ways and that is why i do my best to stay on top of that and keep the customer updated with what is going on.

Anyone want to take bets as to what the response will be when I call them today to ask what time I can pick it up!

You ready for this?

Apparently the block was cracked so they had to find a replacement. Funny as it was pressure tested when I first brought it to them, now it is cracked. They told me to call them back on Tuesday to see if they got it in...

Seriously... When is enough enough...

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

I would go by and nicely ask to see all broken parts, ask why/how the block cracked, and if you are going to be charged anything above and beyond what you have already been charged.

Be nice, but it would be good to have everything clearly stated or better yet on paper.

I'd want to see that crack for myself.

And have they discussed whose going to pay for the replacement block? (Do they take responsibility for the crack?)

I think you need to clarify "responsibility" immediately such a thing is brought to your attention.

And I hope you have put together a "timeline" (on paper) showing this saga right from the start (including relatively-minor details such as when phone calls were made, who you spoke to and what they said etc).

Photos of progress (obviously negative-progress mostly) would help too.

You need to be holding a "thorough record" of all this sh#t you're going through.

Vague dates & times of events are no-where near as useful (believeable to others) as accurate ones.

Well, here's the bi-weekly report.

They received and rebuilt the shortblock for me, which they started installing today.

I don't have the exact details, but from what I understand I have 6 new pistons, and countless other new parts.

I am supposed to call them tomorrow at 3pm to make sure it is ready to pick up. They apologized profusely for taking so long, but to be honest I will just be happy to get it back.

So I may have my 40 back over 4 months later!

Will keep you guys posted.

Well guys, unfortunately I didn't get it back. While putting it back together, he damaged one of the oil rings on the piston so had to order a new one. He actually showed me the damage so I know he was being honest.

I guess they have put quite a bit of money into fixing the rebuild, apparently all on their own dime. Which, I have to say, I am relieved about.

While it has taken them over 4 months, I will just be relieved to get it back in running condition...

Thanks again guys,
Jonny

Supposed to pick it up at lunchtime So we will see.

Apparently they found the problem. They were putting the headgasket in the wrong way around so it was blocking the oil - hence the lack of oil

Sound right?

Actually, yes. I've seen that a couple of times, including a friends who had the head replaced, then drove to Death Valley. the valves got louder and louder all the way home, but it ran OK. He went more than 800 miles like that. Amazing.

It happens. Were they using an OEM head gasket? If they were there is supposed to be a tab that keeps you from putting the head gasket on the wrong way. It gets in the way if it sticks towards the front but people have been known to cut it off!
