Real time help: SBC 350 Engine level

I'm dropping my new sbc 350 w/ 700R4 in my 1970 40; first time I've ever attempted anything like this . My question is I understand I need to have plenty of room at the rear of the engine for my distributor (5 or so inches from the firewall) but what about the level of the engine from front to back. Do I need to put a level on the valve covers, intake manifold, etc to make sure it is level from front to back? I don't have my stock 3 speed TC on yet and am waiting to fab my new Xmember once I get my motor installed. I'm using Matt Bier motor mounts.

Any help is really appreciated.

Nick

I just dropped a 350 in mine a couple weeks ago and everything I've found says -3-5 degrees. I measured mine from the valve covers. When I was done, the carb plate was level with 4 degrees at the valve covers.

it shouldnt matter what kind of angle the engine is sitting at. as long as it isnt crazy, i would say no more then 2-3 inches lower in the back then the front

Ok. I've got it sitting in it right now at about a 3* angle. The tranny is sitting on a strap until I can get my TC rebuilt and installed. I'm going to try and put my body back on in the next few days to see how much clearance I have. I put my radiator on and the front of my engine looks kinda close. We'll see what happens when I get my body on.
