AA Torque Converter Lockup Kit

I spoke w/ AA and got a list of things I need for my sbc 350 and 700R4 conversion. One thing they mentioned I would need was the Torque Converter Lockup Kit. Can someone tell me what this does and if it is something I really need? Does it replace something on my rebuilt 700R4?

Nick

Unless its an early 700r4 you need it.I could be mistaken and someone will correct me .The later trannys were computer controlled lock up ,your takeing that out and switching to a manual lockup with AAs kit. They really do help the tranny. Some people think its a strong tranny but they do have week spots ,shifting is one of them. The kick down that controlls your presures must be adjusted right and the lock up helps the slipage problem. If you dont get it right and loose 1st and 4th get another trans.

How can I tell if which model tranny I have? It does have the "K" stamped on the tranny body.

Not sure about telling which tranny u have but the "K" indicates that you have the thicker case/housing which IS preffered and were used mainly for 4wd's. Best of luck- Aaron

K is most likely the later model ,much sought after for diesel convertions, it has a thicker caseing and able to put extra clutch packs in.Recomend the lock up for that tranny it will be bullit prof.(set it up right though)

Ok. I'll probably order the lock up then. One thing I don't want to do is get this hooked all up and then ruin the tranny. I was reading another post about the kickdown cable needing to be adjusted just right otherwise you'll screw up the tranny. What I'll probably do is once I get this all running, is take it to a local tranny shop and have them adjust everything before I run it. It is a completely rebuilt transmission, never been run.
