No, not really. You can adjust them properly w/o having a master installed, but what's the point? You want to drive it.

Well Charlie, it is a Cruiser after all, so yeah it is expensive, but well worth it to me

If your drums are not completely round, you will get drag and even a blocked wheel without proper adjustment. When the wheel turns out of the protruding part, the brake pad will have a lot of free play. After every adjustment, move the wheel at least half a turn so you make sure you are not adjusting the pad against a flat part of the drum. Spongy pedal is air, pumping pedal in a non booster system is caused by incorrect pad adjustment. You can isolate the problem by clamping the rubber part of the brake line with a vise. If the pedal goes up when you clamp the rear, there you have it.

I went out to the junkyard and purchased yet another MC out of a 84 minitruck.

Believe it or not, I now have pressure. How or why, I don't know. All I can say is that the previous M/C's were either A) not bled well enough or B) bad
