Yeap, going to paint it the original tropical coral red
I need to start a new thread about de-rusting bolts for reassembly
Also about how to paint them, for example before assembly or after.
At least for the bolts that are the same color as the body parts.
Do you know off hand if the gas tank is supposed to be the same color as the body? I have seen so many variations... some pewter, some the same as the body color. It seems the trend for darker deeper colors to have pewter colored accessory bits?

This is my all time favorite color
But this is the colour of my 1979 BFJ40 - Kermit - Rustic Green 621
I like the greens, but am seriously considering painting my next rebuild in one of the Matt colors - maybe the dark silver like the ICON

Yep that the color green. That lit is from 61. Even less seems to be know about the colors for the first three years of the FJ40 than the earlier FJ25
Don't know for a 64 but my 65 FJ45 has the gas tank painted spring green. The truck has been painted a few times but the original color was spring green.

Thanks Pat,
Ordered a quart to test spray from them today.
Polite and professional, they found the tropical coral red t333 color in 20 seconds
Thanks for the tip man!

A soon as the paint arrives in the post, I am gong to get some random car body part test sprayed. ( maybe a bumperette or front clip bit. )
As soon as I do I will post here on mud
Then I will be disassembling the whole vehicle in my tiny shop.
And hauling the bits to the paint shop for media blasting and paint!
I be sure to photo document the steps, and i am sure i be here asking a bazillion questions along the way hehe

I was only answering a question from destin for a link . I agree about colors. That green color isn't of any cruiser I own. I don't even know if it's a color Toyota imported to the US. I just like the color and would like to paint an early FJ40 that color.

haha ok
soooo, it is definitely not tropical coral red as the original color...
Looked at the test spray, and it looked barbi pink with a hint of salmon.
like wayyy tinted out.
so looks like the only other color it could be for 1964 is solar red?
anyone have the paint code for solar red?
The peeps painting my truck said the stuff i ordered was of questionable quality...
( basically had no idea what brand it was )
Any of you have an early 60's fj40 in solar red?

Copy that
The good news is that this thread proves (by looking at every cruiser posted) you can paint a cruiser whatever color you want and it will look great!
My vote is to paint it whatever color you and your wife agree on!! That way she likes it also and lets you spend large chunks of cash on it which you will......
I hate to say it out load but that VW was wicked.....

Have you tried to wet sand a small section and then polish it to get the real color to come alive?
I can do it as I will have a buffer in my hands all night and tomorrow.
What I am working on is a 50k mile 1967 Toyota Corona that might be Solar red, but yours is not that color.

thanks shane
My battery is on the wonk today ( generator or voltage regulator most likely, only showing 8.5 at the battery, and nada from the generator.
Just had the generator rebuilt, so kinda confused. I thought maybe the regulator fused causing a short, but that would not explain no current of the generator...
That being said if i jump it it will run hehe.
I suppose i can drive it out your shop to buff it today ( have portable jump starter ) if your gonna be around. Maybe buff / wet sand an old body panel and guess what color it might be
Let me know man
Thanks, I appreciate it
