Starting problem ?? sometimes.

73 fj40. The problem has only happened a couple times and fixed itself once without me trying anything. When I turn the key forward to the starting position the amp gauge moves but the starter does'nt turn over. I did the old trick of crossing the celinoid with a screwdriver and it cranks over fine. So were do I start ?? Do the ignitions go bad ? Thanks in advance, Z

starter solenoid? bad ground to starter? does it click or anything or does it do absolutely nothing when you turn the key to start?

When it won't start it makes no sound at all, just the amp gage draws down. Then the next time you try it it fires right up. I did check the ground wires and everything looked good. I can always push start it, lol.
