FJ40 Gas Tank Problem Question

My brother finally decided to get his 73 back on the road. He installed a new fuel pump and can get the cruiser to run out of a jar but not the tank. He has blown out all the lines and they are free. He removed the tank and tried running a wire through all the feeds from the tank. All are clear except the bottom elbow that feeds fuel to the carburetor. The wire goes in so far then hits something. He cannot get air to blow through that elbow either. Any ideas?

I'd take the tank out and try to have it cleaned at a radiator shop. You can take the sending unit out and see what the inside of the tank looks like, I imagine its going to be pretty rusty or gummed up.

The tank was redone a few years ago but it has sat for the last 4 years. I'll let him know to remove the sending unit.
