Agreed, but you don't have to go back in time. Just find one that's been properly restored. You would be amazed how big your grin gets behind a perfect rig. No rattles, quiet, smooth....everyone stares. Better than crack. It BECOMES a time machine.

Oh, and a bitchin FJ45 that may or may not be for sale.

My dad wouldn't co-sign for a FJ40 at the time so I had a '77 p/u

This thread never gets old. I can stare at these photos everyday. I'd rather drool over these pics any day than pics of restored 40's. These photos have all the history before it gets sand blasted, modded and painted away.

Thanks for posting photos.

TLC in the back days

Thank you all for posting pictures. This is our TLC Tradition and History!
I would like to post an almost 30 years old pict:
It was in April 1980 when my High School made a cultural excursion to the East Mediteranean Island State of Cyprus.
As in my country of origin,Greece,Land Cruisers haven't been imported till...1997(Series 90 and 100),it was the first time I could see this legendary vehicle.I could even touch it,take picts of it and dream one day I would own one.
As you can see folks,it's a police car and as Cyprus has long been a British Crown Colony,it's a Right Hand Drive(the right side of the road?).
It's a brand new FJ40,certainly less than 1 year old.No free wheeling hubs,so probably no Power Steering. The paint seems original Nordic Blue and alterations due to patrol duty seem also minimal.
It's been after several others 4x4s and 27 years that I could last acquire and (frame-off) restore my BJ42.
Keep posting vintage picts!

Lion anyone?

Somebody asked for a lion. We had this fellow eat our spare tire in South Africa in 2006. His partner popped our left rear tire at the same time. We drove out of the park on a flat and had to borrow a spare from the game preserve to drive home. Vehicle is a non vintage 2005 LC Prado, but the lion is vintage.

our 40 family

I love these personal, recollections. The FJ legacy began in my family with my younger brother, who graduated in 74. He picked up a used, 74 FJ40, around the year after he graduated HS, which became his college ride. In the years that followed, all 4 of the brothers owned a 40 at one time or another. I'm on my 3rd Cruiser, and other then my brothers widow, the only brother still driving one. I think of him everytime I drive mine, which is everyday, now.

Same here, first member of my family to get the disease... wish I had vintage photos to share. This thread rips my face off.

Good Old Days.

Here are some old pictures taken in Saline Valley, late 70's. This was my 1st FJ40, 73 vintage, mostly stock. Doesn't look like much, but it sure ran strong. Had some great desert trips in that one.....
