Need opinion on truck for sale

Hey guys, my buddy is looking at this truck on craigslist and want to know what you guys think. Guy says it runs good, burns no oil, doesn't leak, drivetrain good, steering good, 4wdb. Has rust in rear quarters, not sure about floorpans. Doors have some rust at the bottoms but i'm not going to run the doors anyways. 4800 dollars, what ya think.

depends on how much rust is actually there and how that lift was done. Looks kind of dilapidated like it's been sitting, which guarantees some work is needed.

$3 range seems fair if it actually runs well.

I would expect it will need a lot of work (read $$) to get it safe and reliable. $3500 tops.

I agree, looks like it has been sitting for a while... a long while. I saw this truck on CL seems like 3 or 4 months ago.

creative photo

I would request more pics of the known trouble ares before you drive three hours. 48 seems pretty high. Be patient and good hunting, Z

Sean,
I was at Hoover Toyota earlier this week and they had an extremely clean tan '78 FJ40 on their used lot. No one I spoke to knew anything about it and I didn't have time to wait around for the sales drones to get off their perpetual smoke break to tell me they didn't know anything either. The one service writer I spoke to said he had never seen 'one of those jeeps'. JFC, there is no hope.

Go check it out. Knowing them, they prolly want $20K for it. I'd say it's worth 1/2 that maybe.
