If I had a fresh, rebuilt and balanced motor, I'd be willing to go to 3500. They really are not meant to spin fast, and Mark Whatley once did a write up about connecting rod bolt failures. That was enough to convince me to keep the rpms down. With my 60, I keep the highway cruise at 2500 rpm which works out to 65 mph. The motor feels in it's comfort zone at that speed. My FJ40 cruises at 3000 rpm and that feels like I'm flogging it. If you think of it as a tractor and not a car, you will be happier in the long run. __________________ Andrew 1971 FJ-40 Rubicon tested, 2F powered, some mods 1976 FJ40 Rusting slowly in the back yard 1984 FJ-60 H55f, 4.11, OME, Daily Driver 1989 FJ-62 117k-son's driver for now-low and slow 1997 FZJ-80 Driveway queen |

Ive used my 74 fj-40 as a DD for the past 8 years and have not had issues running 70 - 75 mph at 3000-3300 rpm if i must. Although I do have 60 steering and brakes with 33''s of rubber. I also think its good to blow the soot out every once in awhile
