Water retention in tub.....
My driveway is at an angle. I always park my FJ40 pointing uphill towards the house, so I can more easily see if anyone is monkeying with the front end (off road lights, battery, etc.) at night. With the top off, this sometimes allows rain water to collect in the step behind the seats. There are no drain holes in that area, unlike lower in the tub under the seats and fuel tank.
I'm tempted to do the most simple solution, which is to drill drain holes. But before I do, I'd like to ask: has anyone else had this problem, and how did you resolve it? And are there any drawbacks to drilling holes here, like water coming up from road spray? (Doesn't seem to with the other holes.) __________________ 1971 FJ40 w/ Chevy 350, Mark's of Australia bellhousing kit, 1979 4-spd transmission & transfer case, 12.50x33x15 tires. Rain? Here in the Northwest? No way! Just kidding. You could always invest in a bikini top. That is what I did. They are pretty cheap and I can have mine off and on in about 2 minutes. I'm kind of in the same boat with the driveway thing. I usually park my cruiser in the garage, but right now I have other projects going on. With the bikini top, the water rolls off to the rear of that "step". That way, it just flows on out the back. It doesn't keep all the water out of the step area, but it is better than with no top. I hate to see a good floor drilled through simply for drain holes. But, on the other hand, it sure beats the dimpled rust look!
I attached a pic of mine after our rain last night. You can see the bikini top a little. Sorry, I took the pic for other reasons so it isn't the best for showing the top. I also added one from my camping trip earlier in the week. It is a better shot of the top. Good luck!

i have a simuliar problem with my softtop. the doors are not a good fit at the top and the water gets in there. I put some holes inthe floor and put some grommets there. Your local ACE should have them. i am also keeping my eyes open for a decent soft top too. One that has a good drip edge at the top...

I have a hardtop but my doors are pretty worthless so some rain gets in anyways I've been thinking about doing the same thing. I think I'll go with the rubber plug idea.
