Douche....

While under my rig changing the engine oil I noticed a small amount of oil coming from the front axle breather. Is this normal? If not whats the cause and how do I fix?

Thanks

Did you check the level? Maybe water in there?

what he said. if water gets in there it kind of whips it into frothy stuff and could come out through the breather.

Hey SA!
Probably not a big deal, a little seapage is normal, check to make sure you aren't over full, should be just to the bottom of the fill plug, make sure you aren't locked in both or especially one side.. Running both won't hurt anything just your mileage (Just not in 4WD on asphalt)!
Wipe it off and see what happens and put a breather on there while your at it..

Are you going on the McGrew?
Check out this section... Monday night meet @ Steve's in Ashland for club info..

Another possibility is that one (or both) of your axle seals has failed allowing your diff oil to mix with your steering-knuckle grease on one (or both) side(s).

The thickening agent (soap) used in the grease causes the oil in the diff to froth up (foam up) when the gears rotate which makes it much more likely for oil to come out the breather.

But if this has occurred, I would expect to see oil dripping from those big "wiper seals" on your steering knuckles.

PS. In other words - Grease will cause the oil to foam just like water does (but unlike water - grease doesn't cause the oil to whiten in colour. In fact moly grease will cause the oil to go black in colour.)
