oil leak??

have a 73 fj40 with original motor and trany. when i drive around town no leak but when on the highway for some time leak happens around the trany housing. Any ideas. bad seal? to much fluid? please help

You may be pumping oil from the TC to the tranny, then overflowing.

Is it gear oil, or regular oil?

After a long trip - pull the drain plugs on the tranny and TC. if one is nearly empty, and one is overfull - there's your problem.

Search on Transfer Case Seal Failure

thanks for the input. I'm hoping thats all it is since i just sold it and now it is having problems for the new owner. Thats always great.
