Real time help needed.Advice?

I'm re-installing my intake/exhaust manifolds on the '73 F engine.There was some major exhaust leaking through from the 2-3,4-5 sections of the gasket.
Now I've snugged up the manifolds (no torque) and it looks like those sections of the manifold don't line up and won't have enough,if any,gasket between the block and manifold.
Hopefully you can see what I mean in the pic.

Any suggestions or tricks to get it to fit?

You will need to bring the manifold into a machine shop and have them machine the cylinder head mating surface flat again.


You could try and stack gaskets, but I would just get the manifold resurfaced so that you know it is true.

I've stacked gaskets and it always ends up forming a leak.

The shop here in town isn't set up to do the job so I figured I'd try anyway.I'll get it to a shop if needed of course.
It just looks to me like the exhaust manifold at those two ports don't line up right (low).Both manifolds are touching the gasket equaly right now.Would machining help with this?
Also this is a new truck to me so is it possible that the exhaust manifold is incorrect for an F engine?

If I have it right it looks low and looks like you can see the edge of the gasket in the circled areas

I would loosen up the nuts and try to push it up if no luck then I would try to pry it up or use a floor jack and a block of wood to put some force on it---not too much though you could crack it


Also is the gasket fitting right in the first place on the engine side?

Looks like the manifold is just a little warped though or the weight of the exhaust might be pulling down on it

Yup,that's where it's low.I tried loosening and shifting things around with no luck.They two outer exhaust ports and the intake ports all line up perfectly.The studs lined up well.The gasket seems to be fitting right - Felpro.
I didn't try a jack.I couldn't fit anything in there to hit those two sections of the manifold anyway.Looks like it needs to come up about 1/8 " plus - but only there.
I can fit a feeler guage into the exhaust in those two spots - no chance anywhere else.
Might need to find another F manifold to compare or buy.I don't want to pay for surfacing when it may not help.

Actually, the factory manifold torqueing pattern calls for the two manifolds to be loosened one from the other at the carb junction, torqued to the head, then tighened at the carb junction last, at least on a 2F. If you have the two bolted tightly together, that might be a portion of your problem. If you're going to pull the manifold off the engine, check with a steel or aluminum yardstick held on edge across the mating surfaces in an x pattern to see where it's not touching. If you have any gaps, you need to take or send it to a shop capable of doing the work to finish the surface. You could also lay it on a large piece of glass and try sliding paper underneath. I have never found dual gaskets to be the answer, and the SOR kevlar gasket is trash. Factory (only) gaskets with copper form a gasket spray have worked for me many times.

The bolts connecting the two manifolds are loose in the pic.
I did try the glass thing and the two manifolds looked good but there was a slight gap in those two spots.Probably not the thickness of a piece of paper.
