Borrowed a grinder, worth doing partial floorpan rust removal?

Been leaving the cruiser outside, topless since my son was born last month. Noticed it's having a rapid affect on my cruiser. I borrowed an 8" Makita angle grinder and a new dewalt 4 1/2" from my father-in-law. The plan was to borrow them to remove the rivets so I could do minitruck power steering.

However, should I bit hitting spots on the floor pan while I've got em and touching up places with rustoleum or something now? Gonna have a big shop in 6 months where I'll be able to do a complete job on it and could maybe roll in some bedliner then.

Is it worth it to do anything now?

Post pics of the floor pans, depending on how bad it is you might be better off with a wire wheel or replacing sections.

Not bad right on the floor pan. Certainly not as bad as you experience in Minnesota. They've been replaced by the PO once through on the drivers side. Plenty of rust holes in other spots on the body such as the floor right behind the seat and the body seam between the drivers door and the wheel opening.

Was planning on picking up a wire wheel for the angle grinder.

Wire brush cup will make it easy.

Pick up a full face guard and a respirator for those nasty dust particles and flying wires. voice of experience.

wire wheel works great for me also ,i also use the sanding disc (80,120,grit) with rubber backing pad does a nice job as well .
i would clean it up if ya have the time. i always use a face shield and ear muffs

Okay, so what's the best thing to put down if I'm not doing the whole thing? Get a couple cans of rustoleum and go to town?

Wire wheel it, sand it....whatever. Then use 3M metal prep to create flash rust then POR 15 it. POR does not like to stick to bare shiny metal. It sticks very well to flash rust. POR is very thin and will wick into places a spraybomb will not go. After the sun hits the POR and turns it charcoal gray, you can topcoat it with anything.
