OEM Combination Meter Thread!!

I have noticed, over the past year or so, that the factory instrument cluster came in a large variety of different configurations, depending upon the year of the truck and the local market specs. That got me to wondering just how many different types of OEM combination meter there are out there. So, please post up pics of your combination meter so we can all see them in their glory.

To avoid getting 39 pics of the same style of cluster, here's a simple posting rule: with your picture, please write a short description indicating how the cluster pictured is different than all the other ones already shown in the thread. Obviously, the posts will become harder after the most common variants have been accounted for and shown. Your picture should be unique. Pictures that clarify details from previous posts are okay. No pictures of aftermarket set-ups, wonderful as they can be, strictly oem here folks.

To get this rolling, here's a couple.

The first one measures only in km/h, up to 160 km/h, and uses symbols for the smaller gauges instead of words.

The second one is Canadian spec., from a BJ42, and has km/h only up to 140, as the main designation, plus mp/h in small yellow numerals. The minor gauges are described by words and symbols.

Not such a great picture, but this one is in km/h only, and the higher speed numbers are in the yellow numerals (anyone got a better picture of this type?)

Here is a very basic cluster from a 1970. It shows mph only and words instead of symbols for the smaller gauges.

Wish I had a pic of mine, it is like the 1970 that SouthBostonFJ posted, but by 73, two triangular green lenses were added for the turn signal indicators near the 0 and 100. They are not actual arrows like the newer ones posted above.

Also the newer gauges are more realistic with the max speed. Max speed at 4000 RPM was about 88 according to factory lit. Personally never tried it, but I can't imagine pegging the speedometer in an early 40. The ones marked up to 85MPH or 140KMH are more accurate. I know on mine, that you have alot of guessing to do going down the highway when the needle is hovering somewhere between 40 and 60 with only a tick mark for 50.

Also notice the order of the guages on the bottom, different in the 1970 cluster than the others, probably so until 75 or 79??? I would bet.

well, MoCoNative, i had never noticed that before. I wonder why they changed the order??

I saw a picture recently of a speedo where the '55' was in a little white square, but i can't remember which year it was, though I'm thinking around 1980 or so.

Whoopie. My 1979 is different so I get to post a picture of it

It's different because the words beneath the gauges don't have any symbols alongside them and it's in km/hr (and the engine is running so it shows oil pressure)

Name: 1979BJ40KCQ.jpg

Size: 64.1 KB

(They left off the symbols because this cruiser was destined for the Aussi and kiwi markets and they knew most of us over here could READ.)

First time I have noticed fuel and temp are in opposite places on early gauges.

This needs to be added to FAQ...

Speaking as someone looking to replace the kph only combi-meter in my HJ with something with mph also. I think I *really* need to find the CDN version, since the mph is only small there. Too cool!

I notice that the turn signal lights on the gauge are shaped differently on the '82 than the other models.

That's a duplicate of the speedo on the left in post#1 above. I'm not sure what the 'J07' refers to. i was surprised that an LX model wouldn't be fancier, like the combination meter shown in post #2.

Cool, glad I'm in early so that I don't need to pick out differences.......

1960 FJ25:

Stamped in ink on rear - sometime 1959 - I don't remember.
White (silver) face with black lettering.
Idiot lights for charge and oil.
Frame is not recessed on the bottom for column shift.
Frame was painted body color.

those 25 series units are really sweet.

Here's another US version, a 1980 I believe; though similar to the '78 pictured above, this one goes to 80 mph/140 kph instead of 100mph/160 kph.

since words are used instead of symbols, it would appear that LostMarble's theory is beginning to crumble.

This is the one I'm putting on my truck.

Wow, I can contribute!

1981 New Zealand RHD BJ44. Notice how someone forgot how to count past 120 kph.

Here we go, Feb. 1980 Ca. spec. 40. 55 is in a small square. They also stopped counting past 80 mph.
