Will 4inch lift FJ 40 springs work for BJ44, or will rear sag??

Once I receive my BJ44, I want to lift by 4inches. There is a company on Fleabay that sells 4 inch lift kits w/ shocks and springs and "U" bolts and bushings for about 550, plus another 110 to deliver to the lower 48 states. (Fleabay auction 260251033249)

1) Is this "Hellscreek" company any good?
2) Are the included shocks (Heckethorn Hydro 8000 shocks ) any good for predominantly city and highway driving for someone who likes firm sports car and firm truck suspensions?
3) Will the rear end sag lower than the front because the springs are made for a FJ40 not a BJ 44 with an additional 14-16 inches in the tail ( I like it that my girl has junk in the trunk).
4) Will there be a problem with the engine weights as this is a BJ with a 2b diesel and the springs are made for a 6 cylinder FJ.

I asked the company and they haven't a clue.

Thanks in advance.

No answers at all?

I am hoping someone knows of this company, someone knows of these springs and shocks, and someone knows if they will work OK on a 44 instead of a 40.

Thanks in advance,

T

Hi - I just bought the Hell Creek springs for my 40, read a lot about the various springs and decided on these. Lots of people like them, some don't.

Cannot answer any of your BJ questions..sorry. Hopefully some others will chime in.

Good luck.

What year is your truck? USA trucks and I am assuming non-US in your case have different spring eye, shackle and spring pin measurements after 8/80 production build or 81 and later. Tell us what year and we will start with that.........much more to discuss.

Hi All:

X2 what "CruiserLoser" wrote.

There are many "unknowns" out there in Land Cruiser Land.

Since the 44 Series was never sold in North America (where IH8MUD is based) we are, well, clueless as to the specs of a BJ44!! Only way to find out any definte info is to have the rig available to examine, measure, etc.

Regards,

Alan

Truck is a 1981 BJ44. What do I need to measure when I get her?

Firstly, thanks for all the answers! I understand the quandry or not knowing and my not giving you a year. Thing is, I see lotsa' non-USA people here on mud from Australia, France, Canada, Mexico, etc..., so maybe someone will know.

What will I need to measure once I get the BJ to ID the spring length? I was hoping to buy springs 1 week prior to delivery so they would be here in time for delivery. I guess that is out of the question.

As far as not sold in the USA....., why would Americans not want a bigger, longer, BJ? Why would Americans also not opt for a something with "more junk in the trunk"? Seems like I have spent my life in search of a better BJ and a better rear end. Maybe I'm a or just a , but I have always been concerned about my .

Seriously, perhaps someone knows. Given the rear axle is 14 inches more forward from the rear than a traditional FJ, and given the bed is longer too, I am wondering how much more weight there is there and if it will make the rear springs look like they are low.

Best,

T

Hi All:

Do you mean "the rear axle is 14 inches closer to the rear of the frame."?

Regards,

Alan

If your springs are 27 years old they are going to be flat. If that kit on ebay is for a 64-80 model year truck (most are), you are out of luck in terms of a direct bolt-in. Old Man Emu gets around this a little these days with different sized bushings for the cross over.........in fact they are worth a call to see if you can source springs from them. The kit will run you more than $500, however.

Find someone (or somewhere-maybe here in the FAQ) with measurements or locate this info from the back of the Factory Service Manual. Your answers or most of them are in there. I will tell you that FJ45 front springs are generally the same as FJ40, but this is never the case for the rear set.

Good luck.

CruiserL... I know about the year differences, they make 1981 spring set-ups and I am most concerned with the rear sagging. From your experience with 45's, I am disheartened. Means I will need to figure out what to do as far as ride height and spring strength.

Joe, I am saying that the rear axle is FURTHER from the rear, meaning there is more of an overhang. Makes more room for an auxiliary tank though!

Thanks Guys.

Anyone out there have any ideas on what weight the rear springs need to carry?

Any answers on what springs to use for 4" lift in BJ-44?

I tried pm'ing BJ-44 but he didn't respond.

I need to know how to get a 4" SUA lift into my BJ-44. I want 33 or 35 inch tires, and that means lift time.

Best,

T
