Maybe not, but it looks like an excellent idea. Post up where you got the joint and the shell.

Howdy! I used a double joint on the front of mine to allow slight axle movement front to rear. I put a fixed bushing on the cross member, and then made a 4" shackle to drop off of that. My "Y" arms join a few inches before the shackle and they are mounted onto a heim joint I picked up for about $20 at the local John Deere dealership. They have some nice BIG stuff there, like shackles, D rings, chains, PTO drives, etc. John

ok ok were did i leave off??

oh yes the jonny joint, got it in and the snap ring in its place. now i could hang the baby shackle and start getting my lengths for my bars

as i now knew the length of the lower bar i notched it as well
also i notched and tacked the upper link end that is fixed to the axle

and here is the thickness of the bars, i told you they were thick

perfect to crush rocks with

i then loosly put it together ti get the upper link length, as i already tacked one end of the upper i ran a bolt through it for proper alignment

now in this pic you can see just how well it will protect the driveline

another angle,

i wanted it below, but not too far hangin down

now i knew the length of the upper and lower i could notch the upper to sit tight on top of the lower, now im not one to bitch and moan but notching this peice almost put me in my grave,

and after the grinder and some elbow grease, i got the fit i was looking for

so then tacked it and got it set for the burn

Why the shakle type mount up front?

I realize it is designed that way, but why? Wouldn't it still allow your axle too wrap the full motion of the shackle movement?

So it can move with the travel of the axle on the leafs. But it won't let the axle roll.

It would just pull the shackle down and stop axle wrap. i have mine like this and works great.

I may be wrong but I think the triangle wins. That is, the triangle stops the twisting. Most of the stress is at where the top bar meets the bottom bar. I think some run the top bar all the way to the joint, but with that thick of tubing, he could of had them meet in the center and still be fine. The baby shackle keeps it from limiting flex, I am guessing.

How much dose that thing weigh?

Looks good and will definitely do the trick.

edit: damn, took to long typing..........

Howdy! Yea, this is a great working setup with the shackle. Ya did good on choosing some super tube for the main sections. Mine is very similar, and since I have double LockRights, I run a lot of 2wd low range. I can hammer the throttle and the pinion does not climb up at all. Two years ago I did a nasty hill climb, but I forgot to slip it back into 4 low. I hardly noticed the difference! Much better traction and control with a good anti-wrap bar. Certainly worth the time/work/money. You're gonna luv it! Good job. John

thanks, im hoping for some good results. does your shakle hang straight down or is it a little tilted like mine? just wondering if i should move the crossmember back a tad or leave it.

any ideas. probably doesnt make a diff. i dont know
