How rare is it?

How rare is a 1979 FJ40 with factory air and PS?

How many were imported?

Thanks

I'm sure someone will correct me, but I think only circa 5000 FJ40s were imported 1979.

Of those 5k I don't know how many had AC and PS. I know my 3/79 didn't come with either. I would gander that it is pretty rare if it is all still attached, working and together.

Not 1983 FJ40 rare...but rare

wth?

Would I be in the ballpark to guess 500 of these in the whole US? (for 1979) or less?

make a guess....its as good as anyones

but I will say, ya dont often see BOTH on the same rig.

are you trying to make up an Ebay ad or something and want to push the "rare" bits?

are you SURE they are both OEM installed in 79? not PO installed latter on?

I had one with ps and air, it was a gem. Sold it to my brother and that idiot sold it for a giant profit to someone in cali, it was white.

This was the first year for those options. I agree with Landpimp....it could of been installed after it came from the factory but it's still a good find regardless. So everything for a manual steering for this vintage year can easily be upgraded to ps. That being said, I ordered a factory steering rod and power steering gearbox casing from the toyota dealer several years ago and upgraded. You may still be able to get them if anyone wants to do a conversion. Now there is a difference in the low pressure return line on the power steering pump, it should be smaller if it's original. The fj60 ps pump or a newer 40 have a larger diameter return line. They did the same on 4x4 trucks. The one with the larger diameter return is better, it restricsts less. The A/C set up is how different story.

Looks like the power steering pump has been leaking for a while...make sure the steering gear is not damp with oil as well....

Gotta love duct tape.

I would not worry about the ps pump leaking since finding one with ps/ac options are hard to find. Just plan on replacing it if do end up buying it. You can get a rebuilt one from an auto part with a lifetime warranty. Or finding a newer fj60 ps pump would work as well.

may or may not be OEM AC, I can see its missing the part(evaporator?) that sits in front of the radiator(which is also not the same as non AC, yours looks replaced), there a bunch of little bits that differ on OEM factory installed AC, battery tray, heater pipe(duct) and other bits which I forget

more better pics? interior unit? pic of the compressor?

It must be an early 79 since it has no defrosters for the door windows. 2900 sounds like a good deal even if did not have those options.

I think since it has AC that it won't have defrosters. I had a 1978 FJ40 that had defrosters though..so who knows.

$2900 is a good deal, buy it, buy it, then post more pics of the rig when you get it home.

Saw an 80'ish with 110k green and apparently clean on the local CL sell in less than 24hrs with PS, don't know what it actually sold for but it was listed around 8K.. surprised me as it does seem that the economy is sluggish.. Waiting to see it pop up for 15k..
That would be a good deal but you better look at it or get someone you trust to make sure its what you want. (rust, bondo etc.)
