Yet another paint question
I've searched here and found a couple great links to factory color codes, but I can't find mine. I have a '70 FJ-40 and it's bright red. Looks kinda like Freeborn Red, but that color didn't start till '72 from what I've seen. The plaque on the passenger fender didn't have a color code either. Anyway, here's a couple pics:

I'd like to respray the whole thing since it's really faded. Anyone know what color that is?

I'm pretty sure that the only Red cruiser was Freeborn red, unless your cruiser was repainted some other shade before you bought it. Mine was mustard yellow from the factory, and when I got it it looked like algae green yellow from all the fading. Once I repainted it by the code it looked way different. I'd just go with the Freeborn Red. It is a cool color. Definitely my second choice over my mustard.

For years many paint shops had flip books by manafacturer that had a thumbnail of each colour for that year. If you call around you might be able to find a local shp that has your year and you can match it up.
There was a different red used on 55 series around then. It might have made it to 40 series also.

Great info, guys. Thanks! I'll check around with the local paint guys and se what they say. Maybe they've heard of the Muleta Red. If not, I'll go with the Freeborn.
That's a cool pic in the advertisement. Love that old stuff.

It is Seminole Red--T332. I have the same color on my early '72, before Freeborn Red showed up.

Landpimp Thanks! Good thing I saw your color code paper. I am repainting my '69 FJ a beige (was blue). The Toyo dealer did some research and said that "Pluto Beige" was one of the US color options for that year. I'll need to rethink now... btw where did your info come from? TIA

Guys, the paint shops deal with the color numbers not the names. I asked for the common Olympic White and got blank stares, gave them the code number and got a can that said "Olympic White"!

Anyone have color codes for bezels? Some appear greyish/silver (like the one above).. others off-white.. and some bright white (probably not factory).

Silly question, but beyond getting the right paint, how do you figure out what else you need to mix in before spraying (hardener, thinner?)?
