Need some help

I am trying to put all the smog stuff on my uber rare 1976 California Spec FJ40. I say Ubber rare since it has the system that has the double threaded ends on the EGR tube and the special exhaust manifold. Build date is Nov 1975.

I need a picture of your egine compartment. I have 3 FSM plus a 2 Toyota emmsion manual as well as a Haynes and a Chilton for this set up. The emmission manual has cartoon like pictures and is very detailed on how to diagnose things but I need to know where to bolt the stuff.

Thanks

Dan

I have seen a truck recently with the complete 1976 cali emission setup still underhood.

PM CW44 on here, see if he can send you a pic of his.

What is the difference between the EGR Valve and the EGR Port?

On my VSV it has a nipple for both.

With every thing hooked up as far I can get it, I still have this open nipple.

Where does the hose come from that plugs into here?

Top picture is looking form the passenger side. Look to the right and just below the red electrical connector in the middle of the pic.

Bottom picture is a close up of the nipple on the cast iron piece on the bottom of the carburetor.

Should I be using the # 17650- 61010 VSV or the # 17650-61040 VSV?

On my little vacuum duehickey thingy that has all the nipples on it that I bolted to the fender it has a nipple for both.
Howdy! I would think the "valve" nipple should have a line from the VSV down to the actual big round valve body with the diaphram in it, and the other nipple should have a line down the the vacuum source port on the manifold. John

D'Animal - I will try and get some photos for you tommorow. I dont know how much help i will be otherwise as i just aquired my "landcrusher" last fall. I'm not sure if mine has the "double threaded ends on the egr tube" so maybe we will both learn something. - CW

Dan, there's a good drawing of vac routing and a schematic in the Haynes book.
See fig 3.100 & 3.101.

I thought initially you only needed to see the positioning of the components.
The vac hose routing on CW44's truck is not stock, but all the stock parts are there.

Thanks!

Could you look at your VSV and see the part number on it? It is the black box on the driverside inner fender that has all the hoses connected to it. I have 4 VSV's and cannot tell which one to use on the 1976.

I will be doing my 1977 FJ40 after I get my 1976 done.
