What necessitated the linkage to cable & carb bellcrank conversion?
The truck and engine and carb are all 75-78, so the stock throttle linkage should fit?

Once this passes SMOG I will be starting on my "Black Label" 1977 FJ40. Wish me luck.
Now where did I put FJ40Jim's secret cell #. LOL! __________________ Cruiser Dan at American Toyota Phone is 1-800-432-6668 ext. 8 (I am not cruiser Dan) |

I have driven it a bit now and put some fresh fuel in the rig.
It starts and runs fine. There is a slight dead spot in the transition of the secondaries opening. Idle is around 600rpm. As it warms up the idle comes up. When it gets to operating temperature it idles around 1,200 RPM and slowly climbs higher. If you let it cool down, like overnight, it will start and idle at 600rpm again. Where does the BB go? __________________ Cruiser Dan at American Toyota Phone is 1-800-432-6668 ext. 8 (I am not cruiser Dan) |

Cold it idles great. After driving about 10 miles it will not come back down to proper idle. I'm thinking it has something to do with the VSV? Or am I looking too far, too deep to quick? __________________ Cruiser Dan at American Toyota Phone is 1-800-432-6668 ext. 8 (I am not cruiser Dan) |

Nice thread...
![]() I have some questions, and possible hijack... I have a '77 CA spec FJ55, needs to be kept smog legal, and a '76 federal carb I'd like to put in. Is that easily do-able? I'll double check the actual MFG dates on the carbs... __________________ nial, Hippie teleboarder The more I see, the less I know... '77 FJ55, stocker, with a locker (and some other stuff). ![]() Well, I just checked the date codes and the one that is supposed to be the "CA stock '77" is "6 - I - 23" (9/23/1977?) and the "76" is "7 - E - 4" (5/4/1977?). This might explain why the "older" one gives me a better "seat of the pants" improvement in performance... Which one should I run, and how can I route the vacuum lines for best performance (and emissions compliance when I need to)? The truck is a July 1977... __________________ nial, Hippie teleboarder The more I see, the less I know... '77 FJ55, stocker, with a locker (and some other stuff). Now with 95% Mojo! 6 I 23= 1976 Sept 23. A 1977 model year carb.
7 E 4= a 1977 carb also. Might be possible to swap them, if they are both drilled for CA emissions vac connections. __________________ Thanks, Jim C. TLC Performance Underhood Janitor, cleaning up other people's since 1988.

But is one "better" than another? And which one might be best for performance modifications? One has the power valve port and the TP port (#14), one doesn't. I forget which jets and such they have... __________________ nial, Hippie teleboarder The more I see, the less I know... '77 FJ55, stocker, with a locker (and some other stuff). Now with 95% Mojo!
