read the posts, additional parts for 60 series dizzy swap
I am swapping my 73 F motor's dizzy with a 60 series. I have a dizzy, side cover, coil, and ignitor. What other parts do I need to pick up? ALl the posts are a little different or lacking in additional parts.
Do I need 60 series plug and coil wires, or should my stock wires (new) work? Anything else I should pick up before hand so I have less down time? __________________ 8/73 FJ40, 4" tweaked front flipped extended wheel base SUA, rear SOA, 35 Cooper STT Discoverers, fully locked, 1.5" Marlin wheel spacers, 60 series power steering, just under 100" wheel base, full cage, 60 series ignition, roof rack and custome awning, Syrius sat. radio, and a whole bunch of electrionic toys to get GPS directions and keep me in touch with other rigs in case something like the movie "Red Dawn" happens. www.centralvalleycrawlers.org |

Is the distributor clamp the same?

You can use your stock wires. The FJ60 dizzy clamp just needs a 8mm x 1.25 x 16mm bolt to secure it. Pic is before I cleaned it up but you can see the simple method of securing it.
Ideally you would want to get the wiring harness section from the donor FJ60 to the FJ60 dizzy and splice that into your 73. __________________ !Oy my 1971 FJ40 Not Road Legal http://tinyurl.com/47zpb (My Web Site) http://tinyurl.com/2h6hc7 (Nut and Bolt Spreadsheet) |

I think the reason additional parts are not listed is because I think you have what you need. Depending on where you mount the coil/ignitor, you might need a longer coil wire.

The ignter/coil assembly will mount right to the head on the F engine. I'm debating this location though as Toyota later moved it to the fender for some reason. Heat or vibration???

Slick,
The stock FJ40 wires can be used. If you wanna buy new wires, order a set for 1981-later FJ40. The signal wire lead from dissy to ignitor will need lengthened a few inches if the 60 coil is mounted out on the FJ40 fender. That's a simple cut 2 wires, splice in 2 pieces of similar gauge and crimp & tape. __________________ Thanks, Jim C. TLC Performance Underhood Janitor, cleaning up other people's since 1988.

I was going to mount the ignitor and coil like yours, but thought heat might be an issue too. If I can find some roomon the fender (shich should clear up once I remove the stock stuff) I'll probably put it there. __________________ 8/73 FJ40, 4" tweaked front flipped extended wheel base SUA, rear SOA, 35 Cooper STT Discoverers, fully locked, 1.5" Marlin wheel spacers, 60 series power steering, just under 100" wheel base, full cage, 60 series ignition, roof rack and custome awning, Syrius sat. radio, and a whole bunch of electrionic toys to get GPS directions and keep me in touch with other rigs in case something like the movie "Red Dawn" happens. www.centralvalleycrawlers.org |

yup simple
I picked up a bolt yesterday. I'll start tearing things down this weekend if my wife would get off my back and let me wrench. FOr some reason she feels jealous of my time with my other lady in my life.
