Nice. These tops look sweet. What does the back end look like if I don't get "Soft Top Rear Quarter Window Option"? I'd be interested in the complete khaki top (probably with quarter windows) for a '73. I am guessing that is "barn door" since I know I don't have ambulance doors.

I am assuming the sides roll up (looks like htere is a seem for it).

Last question... which s better, vinyl or canvas?

Thanks,

Chris

It looks like this:

Soft Top Install (California)

I wanted a canvas one, I think they might be tougher then the vinyl if you get in the woods but the vinyl might be a bit more water proof and not require to be maintained like the canvas (water proffing and such like an Army convas tent as it ages) I am going to get a Tan 2 top like the one in the above pic from a mud member who never used it.

I have heard from Ehsan and the following is the inventory that he has, right now. Hold your requests and I wants until we get a price. I have asked for a group price for a minimum of 15 tops and bows. The best way to reduce the shipping cost may be a 20 foot container. If so, I think we should open up the order to other parts and get the shipping cost as low as possible, but not so that it delays the shipment of our tops. Also, one possiblity is to just limit the order to the exact inventory listed below.

10 Bows for 75 and later models
5 bows for 74 and older models
3 khaki canvas tops
8 Green canvas Tops
7 Black canvas tops
2 Vinyl tops

Not necessarily true.
I asked Ehsan to give me a list of tops and bows in stock and he may have not included bimini tops in that list. I just emailed him to clarify.

Am I correct in assuming you are planning on taking the lead on the order?

I have a '73 but I installed a '76 roll bar in it. Which set of bows would I need?

These take 1 day to make, so pretty much a non-factor as far as delivery

I guess I am.

I don't think the roll bar matters, just the attachement points for the bows. I think the difference has to do with the backdoor area? Someone here will know for sure.

The price for 15 tops and bows is roughly $816 each, delivered to Boston. Shipping to your door will be extra.
Thats $650 each plus $2,500(+/-$100) shipping/15 tops=$166(+/-$6)each. That seems pretty good to me.

Someone did just order 2 sets of bows today, so he now has two less. He put all orders on hold for us, which I thought was great. That means that now we need to get moving.

Is anyone opposed to limiting the order to what he currently has in stock? That will greatly reduce the lead times.

Thanks for taking the lead and organizing this.

I have no problem limiting to stock on hand and I think we nearly have enough interest to fill the order and get it shipping. Let us know how payment can happen and get the confirmations rolling.

Thanks again.

Hi All,

I can help you save a bunch of money on shipping. I work in Intl. Supply Chain Management & Logistics. Purchase your tops from Eshan, "ex-works" or, "FOB" & then do the shipping yourself.

Ex-works mean that you take ownership of the goods at his back door. Your freight forwarder would be the ones that actually arrange a pick up & get the goods to the boat. FOB stands for Free-on-board & that means that it is up to Eshan to get the goods to Port & then loaded onto the boat. But once the goods pass the ships rail, you own them & it is up to you to pay for the tranist. Again, your frieght forwarder will work out the details for you. If you like I can recomend several FF's, including my wife's company (FLG - She is a licensed Custom's Broker for them). There are a million of them, & I guarantee you it will save a lot of money on shipping.

best,
Abe

Sounds like something to consider depending on insurance, since we own the goods once they leave Ehsan's hands. I will look into it further.

Do me a favor and email me at alex.durso@feccables.com
That way we both have a record of who wants what. Include your username on Mud so I know who you are.

  • snilloctap- top/bows
  • reedo311- top, khaki, canvas, 2 small rear windows, possibly bimini top
  • RumBum- top/bows
  • corbinwelter- top/bows, khaki Canvas
  • Portal_tek- 2 sets of bows
  • kellyo- top/bows
  • phrogg4evt- top/bows
  • Jakes40- top/bows
  • Hugh Heifer- top/bows
  • SouthBostonFJ-top/bows
  • fjbj40- top/bows
  • my81fj- steel half doors

  • PAULGRIMAUD-?
  • UltraFJ- top/bows, khaki or green canvas
  • BigRedFJ40- top only, khaki or green canvas
  • antFJ- Khaki Top and Bows and Khaki Soft Ambulance Doors
  • MDH33- Black vinyl bimini
  • apeterson- ?
  • bucfan- black vinyl bimini (modified sides)
  • fhawk5- ?
I want to state this now, there may need to be two group orders, one now for the stock on-hand and one later for custom orders.

I am sure someone will be pissed off, but Ehsan has enough on-hand to do one good order now and it isn't fair to make other people wait.
I welcome others opinions on this topic...

One large order, although it may take a little longer, will help reduce shipping costs. Just a thought.

Just got this on the difference between 75 and later and 74 and older bows...

Just a slight bend inwards at the bows behind the door. Meaning the top will be slightly narrower above the drivers head on the newer models then the older ones. You can see this by seeing the door. Newer doors are bent slightly inwards above the mid. Older ones are straight.
Ehsan

Cool. Am I right to assume the bows fit into the channels that the hard top fits in?

For ~$800 + extra shipping to my door it sounds good. Even better if the shipping part can be reduced.

I am in for a Khaki canvas (regular) top and bows for '73. I'll email also.

- Chris

I was waiting for another group buy to come up as well.

I would like to see some pics of tops on red or dune beige cruisers. I keep wanting to paint mine red but the beige seems so easy. Not sure how a tan top would look on either color, I don't want a hot black top here in the south. Any and all pics would be wonderful.

That is exactly what I was thinking because I had asked about something custom. In fact I went ahead and contacted Ehsan by PM. There would be no sense in holding up anyones order to wait for what I was looking for. Since this may be a one time thing I am going to go it alone. If he wants to offer them in the future as a product then so be it. Good Advice South.

Don't bail out yet. Bimini tops take no time at all according to Ehsan. I don't think adding the two pieces to the back will affect delivery. We need more khaki tops anyway. That will take 20 days to make which isn't very long and worth waiting for IMO.

Guys, I am out. Picked up a brand new Paki top yesterday from Wanabecruisen. It is mint, never installed. Fantastic look and workmanship.
Goodluck with the order.

So far, only six people have emailed me with what they want. We need to get moving on this because Ehsan is not going to hold his inventory for much longer waiting for us to get our act together.

Also, when you email me, tell me your MUD name and if you want bows, I need to know if they are early (74 and older) or late (75 and newer) style bows. Thanks.

Does anyone think that new style bimini is going to be loud flapping in the wind? Or is it going to be attached/ wrapped around the corner posts in the rear? I love the design especially the slight taper of it and that it covers the posts but would like to know how Ehsan plans on doing this.
