chrome, yes... black, not so sure. there is a chrome bezel in one of the later dealer brochures (there are also upside down bezels in factory brochures).

Chrome was an option, I have them new in the garage.

I have have a factory 47k mile '79 that has black grill, mirror arms, mirror heads and hood latch's. Grill and heads are original and I even have a new set of OEM mirrors that are black. But I have no photo proof.

That'd be the only one I've EVER seen. Proof needed...must be a dealer thing.

I've thought of painting mine black or maybe bed-lining it. I think that would look pretty cool

Mine did. It's pitted now. Will have to get it rechromed...not as easy as repainting.

I've had about 7-8 79's, white, including my last FJ40 prior to this one. they were all silver...not saying it couldn't happen tho!

chrome bezel, square or round(depending on year) was optional, same with front bumper and rear bumperette's

if you order a new square bezel today....I think all you get it s chrome one, the white is not made anymore, but the square chrome new was just about $100, the rounds are gone.

black......IMOP and from all I have read and seen......was not an option, now that said.......there is a chance the middle eastern spec 40's got black......but I really dont think so.

Landpimp- Was this some sort of appearance package? I also have the chrome bumperettes, wiper motor cover, tow hooks in front. My seats are black and I thought gray was standard for that year... part of the package?

not that I know of, just OEM options bought or installed seperate, many dealers might have "dolled" up a 40 with chrome.

wiper motor cover is aftermarket, same with tow hooks.

what year 40? I want to say 79+ was gray but cant remember

I have OE Chrome mirror arm new in the box, never seen another. Chrome bumperettes are still available. I also have a new set of mirrors that are black from Toyota.

CCOT Shows a white with black extras, but that dont mean shit since it's CCOT.

I am pretty anal and did look over all my parts to see if they were painted. The plastic insert in the mirror arms were not painted. Rubber on hood hooks had black paint. Mirror plastic was cracked and black all the way through, not painted.

Bumpers were pewter.

But then again. WHo knows? But I like it and keeping it that way.

It's a 78, Landpimp.... Anyway I like the chrome bezel. Goes with the headlights, but the rest of the chrome stuff can go.

my guess is, yes the paint is(or mostly) original.....those are the correct vintage pin stripes......no one would put them back if repainted

sunroof is not :(

Looks like a great rig, My only concern would be the seals vaporising the first long drive you take.

BTW I have a black bezel, But, Im sure is been plated, Not painted, Its the same as the bumperette's

good buy.

and some of those miles may have been behind a RV

seals, I wouldt worry about it, I had a 72 el camino one owner, 26K on it, been sitting for years, only seals it needed was a rear axle seal.
