Designs for parts made

I don't know if I should start this thread.

I am only starting this thread and I hope you will make it grow.

Post a pic or a drawing of parts or plates you have made to fix rusted or damaged parts.
Others can use your design to make their own.
Measurements should be include or some instructions if possible.

So here is my first one.

This is a drawing for the plate that goes between the rear shackle mount and the frame ( which usually rusts before anything else).
This the driver side , the passenderside is a mirror image of this one.

Put your preferred measurement on it and get one made. Drill the holes later , 1/8" thickness is good or 1/4" if you like.

I hope this a good idea.
Thanks in advance.

Vic

If people get me their rough drawings, I can probably punch them up on AutoCAD and spit them back out as PDF's so everyone can open them. Work lets me do it to keep my skills sharp.

Here is another one.

The plate that holds the 2 rad support mounts in my front cross member was rusted out . This plate was made from 1/8" thick piece. 20" long as a replacement.
It sliped inside the cross member ( tight fit). No need to take that cross member out.
After alligning the rad and everything I marked and drilled the holes for the 2 rad support mounts.

B- Is a pice a coper wire I used to determine the 2 bends in that new plate A.
This plate can be welded or bolted to the cross member.
If welded, it is not noticable.
It worked out very neat.

all that technology and you must have used a camera phone for that pic

Just kiddin' you, great idea for a thread. Maybe they (the drawings) could be sent in full size template cut out form of some sort...

I am helping a friend put rear disc brakes on his 1990 Toy pickup now.
It would have been nice to find some post with a design for the caliper brackets.
That is the reason for this thread.
If you see something you want to copy it is there for you.
I would like to see some more stuff , and different ideas.
pumpers , tire carriers , frame parts and so on.
It doesn't have to a drawing , a pic will be fine. Just post it and someone will benefit from it.
Thank you for all your responses.
That pic was taken by a web cam. I know it is not the best , it sucks actually.

This is possibly the most interesting post I have seen here in a very long time. I hope this ends up an a FAQ or in the Technical Links with a new section.

This weekend I am going to start on this bracket.
For RDB with Toy calipers and rotors.
I can make it in one piece ,but because I will be using an old rotor, I will make it in 2 pieces along the blue line. That way I can easily change the distance from the rotor to the caliper mounts if I have to.
I think it is easy to mark the 6 holes using the backing plate for refference. Then I will use 1/2 a caliper to mark the 2 caliper bolting holes. I could also use a knuckle for that.
I will post a pic when I am done.

Here it is , alex e

This was the easiest fix for my cracked rear cross member.
Had this plate bent wraped aroung the middle of the cross member , drilled the holes and bloted it to the cross member.

Man we are having a heat wave, I can't believe I am saying that in Canada..

Vic.

Ok , I started making that this plate today.
I ran into 2 problems as always, one I ran out of oxy so I had to use the grinder to cut the big hole. The other thing is I have to wait till monday to get the rotors and the calipers.
I made a little change to the design .
The main part is done and I got it bolted to the axle housings and everything is as expected.
I will put a drawing of the plate with the change then I will post some pics .

And here is a pic of the rotor on the axle shaft .

As you can see this is not the rotor I will be using to finish making this bracket or plate. So I will wait till I get the new rotors and calipers to finish it.
The rest is the easy part.
Thanks for looking.

Here is some info for guys interested in RDB, but have the e-brake in the rear drums setup.
There are few calipers that can work with your existing cables you could use.
I think the best option will be the supra calipers (79-81)
I have included a pic of this caliper being used on a Toy pickup .
It could be used for RDB when you have your e-brake in the rear wheels.

As far as the bracket I am almost done , I have got one side comlete, I should have many pics hopefully by Monday or sooner.

Did you ever finish this project? If so, does it utilize stock FF spindles and bits from this point out? I am confused.

That looks very nice! Custom inner axles?

Are you a machineist or just really good with Cad and access to a mill/lathe? I believe you could make some $$$ selling these creations of yours.

Thanks John,
Axles ,I am getting some made this winter.
But right now I am just using welded ones. The reason for that is to test them and see how my seals hold up ,so I can make changes before I get custom made shafts.
I don't use or have any special tools , but the order and the way in which things are done can sometimes eleminate the need for accuracy and some of not all special tools.
For example you can make the bracket for the Toy disc brakes with only a drill an angle grinder and a 12m1.25 tap, but you have to follow a certain patren, and not necessarly the most logical one.
As far as selling stuff, I am not good at selling anything. So I tend to stay away from that, but I don't mind showing this to others. If it wasn't for others who show their ideas and know how, I wouldn't have learned much about cruisers and I am only a beginner still.
Vic

The pic in response # 23 is the rear of Toy mini with discs using the (79-81) Toy Supra calipers . These calipers have built in them levers that will work with your e-brake cables.
I can't see any reason why they can't be used on landcruiser rears that have e-brake inc in the rear wheels.
The rotors that you can use with the supra calipers have to be from the 79-85 Toy 4x4 pickups.

Rear dics ( Toyota parts)

As I mentioned before this weekend I am finished with making the brackets for 2 rear disc conversions.
One was done on a 89 Toyota 4x4 pickup Rear axles and one was done on a 78 FJ40 rear SF axles.
I will post the following drawings of 4 steps of how I made the caliper brackets for the fj40.
As I was doing this work the weather wasn't helping and I didn't have the expected extra hand , so I will be posting many good pics of every thing when I get a nice day and an extra hand, maybe somtime this week.
