| 40 won't start stranded - IT STARTED - THX MUD Hey all - no time to search. Buddy is on the phone and is stranded.
Has a 1982 40 with a stock 2F. Went to start the truck and did not have the clutch all the way in and the truck learched forwar. No biggy but tried to start it again and it would npt turn over. GOt a push start and it started and ran.
Shut it off and now nothing. Lights will not turn on, engine won't turn. He checked the battery and it is fine (Optima). Any ideas. He is stuck in the outback of TN.
I am thinkin' ignition switch but that would not account for lights.

| Does the 82 have a fusible link? That may be a simple solution.
If he crosses the starter posts with a screwdriver, does it turn over?

| Try checking the connection at the starter. if it's connected, reseat it and see what happens.
If the above does not work try this: use a set of jumper cables try connecting it from the starter to the positive terminal on the battery and try starting it. If it don't jumper the negitive terminal to the from the chassis perfferably closest to the starter casing and to the ground terminal. |

| Tried to jump the solenoid. Radio turned on and starter spun but the solenoid did nothing.

| Hooray - it started. When the key was on he was messing with the coil connections and the lights came on. I told him to tunr the key and it started. I advised him if it shuts off, to one by one removed and reconnect each wire to the coil to ID the loose one and properly reseat them all. (BTW - I started with coil becasue those used to stop working all the time in my short time in HDRA and SCORE with class 9s he was skeptical!)

| So problem solved. In short these were the symptoms and solution:
Car turned over with clutch out and jumped then would not turn over. Accesories continued to work (Loose connection)
Car was push started and all was fine.
Car was tunred off and would not restart and no accessories worked (severed connection)
Driver messed with solenoid and in doing so moved wires to coil causing accys to work (Re-connected loose wire at coil)
Car started and he went home considering that if he had no other friends with 40s he would be fawked. (Beer for friend)
Thanks Mud - on behalf of a silly friend!
