The 83 would be a better choice to run IMO.

Best

Is there not issues with fitment? I bought a new 81 version for my 79 resto and I was told it was not a swap out.

Reasons?

SOR shows 1/79 - 7/80 as being the same. I know the 87 carb I am putting on my 79 has very different ports and connections than the 79 I pulled off. I have no worries since I have no smog but I don't see how you are going to get the later carb to work with all the factory smog stuff correctly unless you "improvise". If you are going to run the smog I would definitely rebuild the 79 carb.

The 83 is a better carb.
But that is irrelevant, because it doesn't fit on a 79 due to the difference in height and the differnt choke cable connection.

The best fix would be a bionic carb using the good parts of both.
