3 speed tranfer case to 4 speed tranny HELP

Im in the process of doing this conversion and cant figure this one thing out i have the transition gear that you use to mate the 3 speed tranfer to the 4 speed tranny but im not sure which way to put the gear in , on one side of the gear there is a collar about a inch and on the other side just a 1/8 inch im thinking the side with the one inch would be the way to go so it pokes out of the seal towards the tranny but some one else said the other way , Id like to here from some one who has done this conversion , cant upload photo says its to large and i cant fugure out how to make it smaller ,
TIA

The collar on the input gear is for the input seal of the transfer case to ride on and keep the oil from the trans and transfer case separated. The gear needs to be installed with that collar towards the transmission, so that it will be in that seal.

Robert, if the transmission has been separated from a transfer case for any length of time, make doubly sure that the spacer sleeve on the tailshaft of the transmission that rests inside the rear extension housing is still there. The imput gear needs to press solidly up against it, or bad things will happen.

If you're not sure, best to post up again.

Best

THanks Guys checked the spacer out it had a slight groove in it so i turned it around and put it back in and got the darn xfer thing in today what a PITA , i ended up using my floor jack , lots of straps , a crushed finger and a bloody knuckle but got it in i had to rest it on the seal for just a few but i greased the crap out of the seal before i started, now slowly getting it all back together hard to work in the garage with all that stupid Cotten stuff blowing in the air heck it looked like it was snowing today except it was 70 , thanks agian
