| $500 cruiser came with a few goodies First, this is a repost from Pirate. I find myself over there a bit more in the last few weeks conducting endless searches, I thought I would share my most recent score. Anyway, here we go...
Last Saturday morning, I woke up to G saying “get the f outta bed,” some sort of back street boys was blaring on the alarm clock which caused a brief chuckle. Mouth was quite dry at 5:00am, I wont get into the night before for your sake. The drive from Stockton to Reno was a blur. Before we left my house, it seemed like we were deep into Nevada when the coffee I had three hours earlier finally caught up to me. The 454 Sub was doing its thing, and before you know it we spotted a few cruisers.
On the way into our final destination, Winnemucca, we stopped at Kragen to find out if there were any local wrecking yards to sift through hoping we might run across a cherry “something”. It was in the cards I guess. We heard about a local cat from a girl at Kragen named Carl who apparently had a yard, after a few phone calls he showed up at the meeting point between our original buyer. So, we ditched the trannys and off to Carls we went. Apparently Carl’s yard was the ˝ acre parcel where he parked his double wide. After a few minutes, we left and were on our way back to Stockton when all the GM t-cases on site were nothing but junk.
On our way back we stopped at a tractor yard to check out a late model 40 we saw on the way to Carl’s. We couldn’t stop on the way as we were following Carl and didn’t want to get lost. The cruiser at the tractor yard was cool, but they weren’t open and we didn’t talk to anyone. A few notes on the sticky of the name of the place and we were off on our way back to Stockton.
Keep in mind, Carl didn’t give us directions back into town—about 15 miles. So, we spotted what seemed to be a major thoroughfare and headed out in the direction the freeway ought to be.
Not 10 minutes later did both G and I spot a cruiser that seemed to be in good shape. When we turned the corner, there was another that looked to be out of commission. After we turned around, to go check it out, we were greeted by the owner who was quite nice and was open to us looking at his cruisers. He was keeping his late 70’s 40 cause he liked his ambi doors—the cruiser that seemed to be in working order. However, cruiser that seemed to be out of commission was an early 70’s. After a few minutes of talking, the cruiser was ours and we were to pick up the next week in Reno as he was heading out there anyway.
We knew we had a score from the get go. Here are some pics…

| So, I thought I would share. the plan for this rig is to keep it stock. there is a bit of body damage but the frame seems to be in pretty good shape. I may end up doing a disks up front, thats it. The tranny and t-case are out of it at the moment and the tranny seems to be in bad shape. Eventually I want to do a full resto on it, but for the moment I think its going to be a "bolt back together and drive" type of deal until the correct time for the resto. I'm soooo stoked to have found this rig for so cheap. Mike

| I dream about stuff like this. Really, I do.
Very cool. I like the patina, keep it stock and get Ehsan to make you a new top for those uber cool original bows. |

| Thanks for all the kind words folks. I really am digging this thing in the garage next to my other 40.
So, I'm by no means ready to do a resto at the moment. Tentative plans after Rubithon is bolt junk together and drive it. Most everything is really there, just not hooked up. And the condition of the motor unknown so who knows. Your probably thinking, why is dude not tearing into this junk? Well because of the Rubithon and needing to get several rigs going before then, I just dont have the time. I think I will start a "putter back together" thread around that time and post progress.
