Does anyone have any recommendations on what to put on the threads of the studs between the manifold and the block? high temp loctite? or just buy new studs with it already on there...

You should not need anything. The new studs will not come coated with anything. Just install them and call it good.

so don't put anything on either threads on the stud... (the ones going into the block OR the ones fastening the manifold on?

Both. You don't really need anything. I think the blue stuff burns off anyway. After assembling run the engine and get it warm. Before it cools completely check torque. You should be good to go.

in the nat gas industry they teach that every nut needs something (that includes me).

hot/frequent removal= antisieze. occasional removave (suspenion, etc.) blue loctite.

never(or scared to death (inside tansfer case, etc. red loktite.) red and blue can be removed with high temp or high torque.

jim - its been a long day.

following Cdan and local toyota tech's advice i put nothing on the studs and antiseize on the nuts. run it and let it burn off sitting in place and then retorque after first 100 miles. 1 outta six was below spec. but not by much. do not over torque the stud itself or you might have a big problem.

Allz I know is these Toyota manifold studs came new in the bag with this gray stuff on the manifold side. Don't know if it's loctite or antiseize.

Those are for the the two-stud flange where the exhaust pipe is secured to the manifold?

No, that's a bigger (longer) stud, IIRC. I'm certain I got these for the manifold. Perhaps someone substituted the part numbers. Unfortunately, I don't think I have the original bag from last year.

anti seize them if you ever want to take them apart!, beats breaking them and having to drill and tap!

Okay,
Finally got the parts in... new studs, new washers, new nuts.

then i started second guessing myself... should i not replace all the studs? should i just chase the threads on the studs?

How much trouble am i asking for if i try and remove the studs and one breaks... then i am definitely not driving anytime soon.

my goal here is not to have to do this again, but also to drive this thing soon!!!

i know none of you can see my rig... but just looking for advice from someone who has done it before...

definitely going with antiseize on the nuts

If your nuts seize on you at speed you can break a crank

Couldn't resist
