How much would you pay for this '78??

Dang it, I don't think I can pass this thing up... It's a '78, with what looks like PS (never seen it in stock form) almost completely rust free.

The bad:
Motor is included just not installed. Owner's dad says it was going through a lot of oil, that's why they pulled it. Been sitting like this for 10 years. Diffs and tranny looks leaky. Seats are shot, and I can't verify electrical. Rear springs also look pretty weak.

How much would you pay for this thing? The thing is I have a strong 2F out of a '78 that I could pull out of my '70 (put an F back in) and swap into this thing. I know what its potential worth is, but what's its value as it sits?

Is this the one that was hiding in your neighbor's yard that you posted a cell phone pic of originally?

Lol, yup. I got word that another neighbor was going to try and shoot him a low ball offer today. (The guy's mom really wants it out of there.) So I need to call him this afternoon and try to snag it.

looks like a great resto candidate, I would say snatch it up if you can get it for a reasonable price.....

For $2000 if you have a good motor and the capability to get it running I would take it in a heart beat. If there is a lowball offer coming in say you'll top it by a couple hundred.

You can't lose money on it for anything up to $5000. It looks like it needs a motor and brakes? Get it.

1500 to 2750. A few years ago this would be a 800 to 1500 rig.

The rust in the back looks like they had carpet or a rubber mat back there. You could pay more and not do too bad. Seems like prices are going up way too fast.

You've been staring at the rig for a few years - right? Might as well buy this as you already have a "history" with it. Good luck

5000! Step away from the crack pipe dude. Several BIG unknowns here, including the condition of the entire driveline. No more than 1500 for me. It's a parts car the way it sits. Figure rebuild on trans, tranny, new clutch, brakes, most seals, and rust repair....if you're going cosmetic resto, you'd be into it for a minimum of an additional 4k if you do it right. That, and a few hunnedrd hours labor. "I got an engine" is a sickness! Plus, swapping another engine into your other truck. That's many hours of labor my friend!

That's kind of what I was thinking. There are a lot of 'nickel and dime' fixes that I'm sure will add up.

I appreciate all the input, I'm kind of thinking $1500 - $2500 sounds about right after reading through this (knowing the history means a lot to me). Originally I thought $2000 was fair, nice to know I wasn't too far off. I want to get a deal, bu I don't want to insult the guy. I'll keep my fingers crossed and see if I can work something out.

Thanks!

no more than 1500. Take that from someone who paid around $6k for a $1-$2k rig

1500 to 2500 sounds about right to me.

The drivetrain is an easy fix. The clean body is more important IMHO.

Pimp is right, no stock PS in 78.

2500 sounds good. At first look I was thinking 3k. However, I have a freshly built engine in the shop, which may be why I was thinking 3k.
