Question Newby needs rollbar/cage for my BJ42...came with long jumpseats and no bar.

I just got my first (and definitely not last) Cruiser. It is an '82 BJ42 and came stock (in NZ) with long jump-seats and no roll bar.
I am very motivated to get a roll bar/cage as I am transporting the family.
I imagine I will have to get rid of the long jumpseats or modify them in order to fit a bar/cage.
I would appreciate advice/ recommendations as to where to go from here.
I am not a welder and cannot spend much money.
Any hope of a local welder building one for me?
Does anyone know where I can get a cage for under $400.
Thanks a lot.
P.S. I live in Corvallis, Oregon.

This may be trouble for you. I think I spent close to that for my cage, and I had to weld it myself.
The best place to get a cage is HERE
$554.95 plus Shipping* for full cage

They are located at
1000 Commerce Parkway , STE A
Newberg, Oregon 97132
(800) 839-0684

Good Luck!

schedule a time for mark or lt to weld it up while you're there or ask them.

Yes, they are the same. Metal Tech makes them, and Iron Pig will install it. Metal tech has a list of approved installers on their web site. Iron Pig is one. Metal Tech builds awesome stuff. DC74, If you live in Corvalis, run up to Newberg and have Metal Tech install one for you. It will definitely be worth your time. Mark (at Metal Tech) is awesome to deal with.

If you are transporting a family, get rid of the long jump seats and install a bench seat in back. Fold and tumble seats out of a Jeep, Samurai or the like work well. I put a Jeep fold and tumble in mine. It was pretty straight forward. I added 3 point seatbelts in back attached to my Metal Tech cage for more safety.

Good luck!

Welcome from another rookie! I'll add another vote for the Metal Tech cage. Your family is worth the money! I also agree you should look into a good bench seat for the rear, especially if you have kids. I have 3 and 5 year old kids and went with a bench seat from man-a-fre. Good luck and post some pics when you get a chance!

Thanks for the advice...I am looking into the bench seat too.
