| Help me ID this cruiser (covert purchase) A neighbor has had this thing sitting outside for 10+ years with a blown motor and is about ready to make his son finally part with it (fingers crossed). Its one of those things where I've been eyeing it for years but haven't wanted to approach the guy until I was ready. (Don't want to get him itching to sell too soon.) Sounds like they are kind of giving there son an "get it off our property this summer or we will for you" ultimatum. (Son live on other side of the country.)
So, I've been trying to figure what year it is to start the haggling without sounding too desperate, and asking too many questions up front
At one point he said it was a '79, but I thought '79's all had square bezels? The thing is bone stock so I can't imagine them changing it out. The blinkers definitely look '76+, and it kind of looks like the wipers are on the bottom. I seem to remember a rear heater when I rode in it 10 years ago.
So anyways, can anyone else get any ideas off of this crappy cell phone pic of what year it is? Kind of funny, I was trying to be sneaky about taking the pic and the guy walked outside right when I was walking by, so that's why its a little blurry, played it off like I was answering a call.
Oh ya, I couldn't see the entire back, but the top of the rear looked like it was split down the middle, so I'm guessing ambi doors.
On a side note, how much for rebuilding a 2F?

| my guess is a 78 or very early 79 or it may be a 78 that was bought in 79.

| Thanks guys!
I'm getting more excited by the minute. I was hoping it was a late '70's. I'm just hoping that selling it is more appealing to him than shipping it across the country with a blown motor.
Hmmm, I could take the 2F out of my '70 to put it in this one, then put the F I have laying around into my '70 and sell it.....
... My wife is going to kick my a$$.

| My 3/79 has a round bezel but that doesn't mean a thing. I also have the old split hood. basically, it is a hodge podge. A true determing factor will be the location of the gas tank. 79+ is under body, prior is in the cab.

I was actually nervous even posting about it, I figured someone might try to swoop in on it.
Tell you what, if I get it I'll give you a hell of a deal on my '70.

| Stalker. We've all been there. I drove by the POs house more than a few times before I bought my first cruiser.
If he's a neighbor then you probably know him a bit anyway. Why not be upfront and tell him you'd love to buy it for the right price? Unless he's an idiot he's going to give it some thought. Propose something reasonable and I'll bet it's yours.

I did actually get the ball rolling. It's my parent's neighbor (I personally don't know him that well) and my dad brought it up with the owners dad a couple days ago, (that's how I found out about the summer deadline). Its ultimately his son's choice to sell it and he was going to talk to him about it, and hopefully put us in direct contact.
I just didn't want to come across as 'over eager' (how am I doing? ) and wanted to do a little research first. I've found that sometimes these deals work better if you can be kind of spontaneous. Basically do as much research ahead of time so you can give a cash offer on the spot without too much tire kicking. At least that's how I seem to get better deals. Gotta slow play it.

Covert.......Internet...... | Haha, ya I thought of that, but I figured if he hasn't touched the rig in 10 years odds are pretty good that he wouldn't be around here. That'd almost be torture when you have a rig like that sitting there just waiting for some TLC, at least it would be for me.
and if I'm wrong..... I'm sure the price just doubled....
