Newbie with a problem - oil at the rockers but not at the sending unit?

Just installed a rebuilt '77 2F into my '68 FJ40 and fired it up. Engine runs like a champ, but the oil pressure needle is buried at the top of the guage. I took a look under the valve cover and verified I was getting oil through my rocker assembly, but when I pulled my sending unit, there was no spillage or drips from the block or unit, and I could only get a small screwdriver into the block ~1/4 inch.

Should there have been some oil in the sending unit? Is it possible I
could get oil up to my cylinder head w/o it going past the sending unit?

Any ideas what this could be indicative of? I searched through the archives and found lots of postings re: poor pressure/bad gauges, but nothing like this.

Help's appreciated.

the oil pressure sender is located on the oil filter base housing on a '77 2F.... not on the side of the block.....

Turns out my used filter mounting bracket is from a '74, i.e. no hole to attach the oil pressure sending unit. Guess I'm off to cruiserparts.net to get the right one.

Can't thank you enough for your help - I would never have discovered the solution to this without it
