Ah.. I see said the blind man.. All I have is experience with is my 69, and what the owner told me... Thx for the info.

The dealer installed lift kit has some really think springs. Me thinks this will lead to a very stiff ride. I may be pulling a spring to soften her up a bit... We already have a patch panel going in under the drivers door, and the passenger side has been brazed up.. And looks good. No Bondo for this rig...

I have decided this will be a body on restoration. But I will lift it up off the frame a bit to clean and POR the frame as well and clean and undercoat the tub, as well as putting in new body mounts etc...

Aiming for 120 days till finished...

More pics up tonight...

Took the front clip off today... Sending it all to the sandblasters...

Going to be doing a thourough clean up on the front end begining with wire wheelin and POR 15. Pulling and replacing all the soft lines, cleaning up the rest. Replacing "stuff" as needed.

The entire front clip sandblasted including the hood (where nessesary), fenders, bib, grill, bezel, radiator shroud stuff, was only $80.00. Good deal in my book.

The white stuff in the pics is phosphric acid to kill the rust... (works Great) same as Metal ready, and only 5 bucks a quart.

Update

An update on this one...

Decided to go body off on the resto. We pulled the body and blasted the frame.

Did the POR15 treatment to the frame and diffs. Cleaned up the underbody and shot POR on it as well. (looks sweet) Then placed body back on frame with new Energy Susp body mount kit.

Got the parts back from the blasters and got them into some NASON Epoxy Primer. (the two part 50% primer 50% catylist) NICE stuff btw.

You can see my 6940's rear end through the plastic in one of these shots. The pics have blurry spots... must be something on the lense.?

My goal is to be driving her next month...

Picking up a bellhousing and misc parts from RatPatrol on Friday. Installing them along with tranny Fri night or Sat.

Looks good so far. You should let locals know where to get blasting at that price, seems like a steal.

I hope you seperated the fender apron from the fender, because I have seen on several rigs (including my own), where rust has started from between the sheet metal.

Is that Nason primer expensive? I've gotten mixed reviews from body shops on whether or not epoxy primer is worth the extra coin. I am just using Transtar 2K Kwikprime 2-part primer. It's a nice, sandable product, but I'm not sure how well it seals in comparison to an epoxy. Seems like all the TV shows (Muscle Car, Overhaulin', etc) use Epoxy.

Good luck and keep the pics coming. You have set a lofty goal to be driving her next month....hope you are retired or out of school for the summer or something!

I get all my blasting done at AKIEs sandblasting in Salem OR. Very fair prices.

The NASON primer is $43.00 for a quart, which includes a quart of hardner as well so you get a half gallon of liquid. Was able to shoot my hood, fenders, gas tank cover, fuel hose cover, bib, bezel, grill, lower radiator guard, radiator shroud, and a couple misc pieces. From what I've learned from these boards, bare metal is best shot with Epoxy.

As far as time goes, my father is a retired bodyshop man with over 40 years exp. So he's working on it pretty much full time. Which helps me ALOT...

The "Bezel Police" do have a point, when the head light bezel is installed correctly, the "Toyota" emblem in the grill is centered in the opening.

Finally got the rig over to my garage for the stretch run.

Pulling firewall stuff off for sanding, primer and paint. Going with a urathane primer and paint.

Should be puting the firewall into paint by Friday.

Also putting on a new Master brake and clutch with lines...

My first 40 was a 76 and it had the cooling fan. Does anyone even have them in their rigs anymore? The last 2 I have had the PO's had removed them. Anyone out there still have 'em?

Primer Prep

Got a solid 6 hours on the 40 yesterday.

Dismantled most of the firewall, inside and out. Spent about 4 hours just sanding the outside of the firewall using a DA, , drill with wirewheel, and good ol' paper. Took the heaterbox apart for a restore, and found a nice nest fit for a family of mice.

Pics are of a big mess, firewall, and the NASON primer I used. Good stuff.

Another Update, Engine Installed

Finally got the engine installed.. now I'm having issues with wiring. Can anyone identify the wires in the photos?

Dash is coming along as well... Do you like the black out treatment on the ash tray trim? or no?

And yes I am installing a F155 into a 76. Its been rebuilt and is SOLID...

It does have the 4 speed etc..

Anyways pics...

The wiring in post #49 looks to be either the horn or headlight wiring. It will probably make more sense when you get the fenders and bib back together.

I think your right, Its up front but the colors threw me a bit. The first pic of wires (the BW ones) I have no idea where they go. Plus I have the wonderful task of mating a 76 wiring harness to a F155 Engine. Lots of "extra" wires I would imagine.

Keeping on...

I guess this is turning into my resto thread...

Got some work done this week. Installed dash switches, and wired em up, installed water temp wiring as I could NOT find the damn thing, Installed radiator, installed all wiring minus lights and a few tidbits.

Went to the yard, and found some nice OE hose clamps. Also found that a chevy cavelier has very good seats for installing into a 40. Will need to add some cross braces but the mounts are all flat which is huge for getting them into a 40.

Anyways, some pics of my progress to date.

Wiring goodies. Had to rewire the alternator as it sits on the drivers side on a 1F, but is wired for the Pass side on a 76.

New dash switches. Thx Degnol!!!!! I added some white crayon and they came out real nice.

Water Temp gauge wire. Going to add it into the loom. So it doesnt stick out too much.

Take a good look at the lifting hook on the front pass side of the motor. The 2F alternator bracket will bolt right up in place of this hook and leave the drivers side open for a power steering pump in place of the F alternator if PS is on your list of future mods.

Are you in the Salem area? Or am I getting you mixed up with someone else? I'm just off I-5 about 2 miles south of the Santiam River bridge.

Looking good!

Oops! Just looked back in the thread, you are in Salem. Only a hop, skip, and a jump away!

I thought about doing the 2F bracket. Can you get those from NAPA?

Also, will I need to get a new fan belt with the relocation of the alternator?

PS may or may not go into this rig, but def will in my 69.

No, you have to get them off an old 2F motor. I got mine from Mark at Marks Offroad. Very fair to deal with too.I don't remember what I paid though.

If I remember correctly I just got a belt for a 2F alt, anyway it is NAPA # 25-22495 .The belt for the F engine alt will be too short. The Toy alt should bolt right up with no problems. Howev
