Head comparisons..(FAQ)

While Dhondagod was at my house over the weekend we were chattin about different heads for 2f's. H recently had a head gasket blow in his early 2F and got a good look at his head.

I knew that I had a later model head sitting around (probably around 87 ish) with a casting number 61040 and 0704. BUt I was looking at Matt.machines motor and noticed that his head is significantly different is combustion chamber design than mine is..

According to Jim, the head casting numbers available for a 2f are:
Heads are 61030 or 61031, open chamber, or
61040, 61070 closed chamber.

Dhondagod is plannin on taking some junk heads and cutting them up to see the differences between the different casting numbers.

I do know that the later head that I have does not "narrow" down in the intake. So it should flow better. And obviously the combustion chambers are different.

I'll take pics of the heads I currently have and give some indication of the differences. Then link to matt's pics.

Does the 3F head have a different combustion chamber than the 2f head?? Pics?

I would also like to get some part numbers or application x-refrences for head parts.

Matt is using Ferrea Winsor Valves (what size, stem diameter/length)

The valve locks are apparently Crane cams 99095-1 which refrences
Valve Locks, Machined, Hardened Steel, 7 Degree, 1-Groove, 11/32 in.

So it looks like a 11/32 stem diameter.
Ferra lists these "windsor" valve options
FORD WINDSOR 289 - 302 - 351
F5014 E 1.450 11/32 5.030 .325 12º Under Cut-Dish Head
F5015 E 1.600 11/32 5.030 .325 12º Under Cut-Dish Head
F5038 E 1.625 11/32 5.060 .250 12º Under Cut-Dish Head
F5012 I 1.782 11/32 5.030 .325 10º Under Cut-Dish Head
F5056 I 1.900 11/32 5.030 .325 10º Under Cut-Dish Head
F5018 I 1.940 11/32 5.030 .325 10º Under Cut-Dish Head
F5020 I 2.020 11/32 5.030 .325 10º Under Cut-Dish Head
F5039 I 2.055 11/32 5.060 .250 10º Under Cut-Dish Head

Do you have a seal PN?

If you read my post it on the Engine builders quote

1.9 F5047-PHW http://www.ferrea.com/category_searc...5047&dealer=99 and 1.6 F5046-PHW http://www.ferrea.com/category_searc...5046&dealer=99

Strange that as they come up as CSB valves though the final bill just lists Ford valves and no part No http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/134529-2f-3f-e-%3D-2f-eti-into-my-fj40-4.html

Also the pics in my thread are of a 3F-E head if that helps the 3F maybe different again.

3F heads are the same as the last gen 2F. 3FE heads are unique to the 3FE.

Using the star was easy.
It was shrinky-dinking the pics and saving them in the right size that was a PITA initially.

Learn something new every day. Thanks Jim for the link.

So you could easily increase the compression on a 3fe head by swapping out to a flatter valve?
