| FJ40 vendors Okay, I've been buying alot for my vehicle lately. Started out with Cool Cruisers and have pretty much gone Spector lately. Their catalog and pricing are very user friendly for this gal. Plus their customer service has been excellent. Now here is a great buy...needed a new starter and everywhere they wanted something like $150+ for just the starter, cylinoid was extra....Went to Kragen Auto parts, where they tested mine and ordered one (got it the next day, no extra charge), exactly like the orginal WITH cylinoid for $52, but wait there is more...I will get $10 back for the core when I get my butt over there to give it to them (you have up to 30days).
I am not sure if SOR is cheaper, but I am having a no worries, all in one shopping bonanza there.
Curious, anyone have favorites and why???

| What was wrong with your original starter? You can install new brushed in them for a fraction of the cost of a replacement starter. |

| Should be a local alternator/starter rebuild shop in you're area, They usually do a good job and are friendly to the pocketbook.
I have no beef's w/ Specter, Have spent lots of money with them, and as you say their service is excellent.
On the otherhand, sometimes a little pricey....
Sometimes I don't mind spending a little more for the right part shipped to my door within 3 days...

| everything dead on the starter When tested, nothing came up that didn't have the red box marked FAILED. With everything else we are doing to it, a quick fix at (to me) not that much cost in comparison to everything else cost...just did the replacement. Heck, at Kragen it was 1/4 the cost of everywhere else we checked, and without any shipping costs. One less thing to tear apart and do ourselves.
We begin dropping the tranny and the transfer case next week. Replacing all the gaskets and seals. Putting in the brace plate for the TFC as well. Rebuilding the parking brake and doing something (real lack of knowledge here) to the speedo cable area and in hopes of getting it to work again.

| FJ40 Vendors, hmmmm.
I like Specter's on-line catalogue, parts inventory and helpfull staff. They are a little $pendy, though. It's smart to purchase several items at one time to save on handling and shipping.
I also like Man-A-Fre. They have a comprehensive selection of stock and aftermarket parts and accessories. Haven't dealt with them for a while, but was pleased with the knowledgeable staff.
Have never dealt with C.C.O.T. but have heard mixed responses about them. Mosty good though...

I have dealt with Man-AFre, Spector and C.C.O.T.. CCOT has great people and easy to do business with. They ship when they say they will and you get the right parts.
My last order had "extra" parts in it. I called them up to let them know about it. They said "Yeh, check that stuff out and use it, get back to us if it is good or bad. If you like it and it holds up we will put it in our catalog."
I was simply amazed.

| Useful Vendors Like others, I've gotten stuff from $OR, CCOT, MAF and been generally pleased with the results. Here are two that haven't been mentioned that are worth checking out. - Your local Toyota parts department. I'm consistently surprised at the number of parts still available from the dealer - often as not, no more expensive than aftermarket.
- Cruiserparts.net. Their prices on used parts are substantially lower than $OR's used part prices(though shipping may be an issue way over there on the left coast). They're good folks to deal with. Once or twice they've sent me an item that had a problem - they shipped me a replacement and return shipping label for the old one, no questions asked - didn't cost me anything but time.
HTH,
Alfred

| CDan is a parts Shaman who works for a Toyota dealership in NM. He is as good as they get and offers the parts at great prices. Look in the vendor market place for his "how to get ahold of me" thread: Getting to cruiserdan....
Good luck.

| X2 on CDan I've actually not ordered from him but he can probably list a toyota parts number for any fj40 part you name off in less than 10 seconds

| dealer x3 for CDAN. There is no substitute. Dan is American Toyota in New Mexico. they can be googled. he is extension 7 or 8 in parts. The guy is the "rain-man" of Land Cruiser of parts. That is no joke. He pulls stuff from his head that have me baffled. he could have made millions as a actuary for a insurance company.
As a back up only I use manafre, and the CCOT if desperate.

| His extension is #8.
Call him, don't PM him because he gets about 500 a day and does not have time to read them all. |
